Iam vetern 40ker but have recently dove into playing wfb (still can't get wheeling) . i have a blosoming empire army. (cannon, motar 40 spearman 10 halbediers, 10 free company, 20 handgunners with marksman, 9 knights and i plann on buying the army set in the near future) My question is this (sorry it took a while to get there) is there a formula or basic guidline as to figure out what characters to run ? to clarify should I be running a general, bsb warrior priest and lv2 wiz or would it be better to run an arch lector, bsb, and 2 wizards or some thing i am not thinkiing of?
Hey justiceisrelative welcome to the empire.
Your starting forces looks pretty good, What are you planning on getting next? Mayby some more state troops or greatswords? Theres plenty of choices for you to.
Both of your characters choices will work but just depends what you expect from them in battle. But if you want a good leadership bubble and ok fighters, i'd take general, bsb warrior priest and lv2 wiz and If you want say more of a offense leader i'd go for arch lector, bsb, and 2 wizards combo.
Its really just the matter of test and messing around with the choices for yourself.
Let us know how you fare.
have you read the tacticas at the top of the page? I'd hate to reply with a huge post, when several people have already spent hours writing their opinions on how to field an army. Some of the tacticas are really good, non-biased explanations of different units and characters and some ideas on how to use them. Check those out first, it may answer some of you questions or help you ask the right questions.
thank every one for the suggestions
based on this and other suggestions my 2250 will look like this
arch lector dawn armour great wpn war chariot
warrior priest great wpn heavy armour icon of magnus barded warhorse(rides w/ knights)
Bsb full plate griffon standard (with swordsmen)
Level 2 celestian wizzard dispel scroll wizard staff
24 swordsmen w/ full command 10 man halbedier detachment
20 spearman w/ full command 10 man halbedier detachment
10 hangunners with marksman hochland lonng rifle X 2

As to your question justice, I'd say take whatever you feel enhances your army to optimum effects. Experiment a little, don't be afraid to chop and change them.
justice, I think it really depends on the kind of army you want to field. magic heavy, infantry, gunline, etc. I play a fast fighty army and only take 3 chars: Arch Lector on War Altar, Warrior Priest, and Captain on Pegasus with Doomfire Ring. Taking 3 chars works with some armies to allow for more troops. It all depends. An infantry heavy army may want a BSB, where my faster, less units army doesnt need one. Your setup looks pretty good for your army, you want to tweak it and try new things. How does the arch lector on war altar fit in with your mostly infantry list? How have your games been going?
thanks for that but i have i have since revised my list i now run a level 2 celestial wizard with dispel scroll and wizard staff, a level 1 bright wizard with van hortsman speculam and bitting blade, a bsb with fullplate and griffon standard, and luther huss. i found out that unsupported characters die quickly so i moved off the arch lector route for now. please critic my list posted in army lists.
