So i was wondering, if you have a wizard with van hortsmans speculum and who has bears anger cast on him does he trade his baseline stats with his opponent or does he trade the modified stats? Basically would he get to ad the +3 attacks and the strength and toughness bonuses onto the stats hes just stolen from his opponent or does the opponent get those bonuses during the switch?
also is there any way to force someone to accept a chalenge with a character rather than a champion?
Its the base stats that are traded, the spell is a modifier an is applied on top of the base stats, so you swap stats and then add the spell benefit.
As for the challenge, no, unless there is a magic item or special rule (cant think of anything off the top of my head)
What about a trait etc? Like an Alter Noble "His Attacks are increased by one". Does that add to his base profile. And technically swords like the Sword of Battle (+1A) add to the statline of the character.
Transferring the bonus form the sword would in effect be swapping magic items as well, no? Base stats is a pretty darn clear rule, I think any arguments otherwise will prove to be intentional obfuscation.
The only way to 'force' the character to accept the challenge is to charge in such a way that the champion isn't in combat. (which will generally mean plowing in there solo or hitting a character on the corner form the side.) Mind you if you do try to do it by charging solo any decent player will simply decline and break you on static combat res =). I think most people by now have figured out not to accept strange challenges from empire characters that stink in combat.
Only problem is Bear's Anger is RIP on a 4. If you charge and kill the champion, it's unlikely it will last through your opponent's magic phase to rely on in the next round. Assuming this thread is parallel to the one Bieltan started in the VC forum, the champion is just going to stand back up anyway =)
