The notion of an Empire army with warrior priest and wizards has always appealed to me. There are lots of good bound items that complement bound spells and wizards.
What magic builds do you guys like for Empire?
I'll start with the classic: The Doomfire Ring and Doom and Darkness:party:. If you can bait out DD then this will work beautifully.
Otherwise, depends on the role of the Wizard/WP. Having lost too many VWs, I always give my WP the Shroud of Magnus even if just for the MR(2).
Others I like to use include the Rod of Power with a Power Stone, and a Grey Wand with 3 Power Stones for a Wizard Lord (I now steal this time to cackle maniacally).
The Ring of Volans is handy as well, if you want to pick from 2 Lores, or if there's a spell you particularly want (like D&D). Armour von Tarnus isn't that great imho, the Wizard I generally camp inside a unit so have little to no need for the ++Save.
so this is one that worked really well for me last weekend against an all orc army
Wizard lord, level 4, doomfire ring, grey wand, steed
Wizard level 2, 2 dispel scrolls
Warrior priest, armor of metioric iron, 2 hand weapons
Warrior priest, silver horn (the one that auto rallies, i dont ahve my book but i think thats the item), heavy armor, great weapon
i also tried 4 warrior priests but it didnt work out so well
personally this is my setup
Arch lector with Pope mobile (war altar) AOMI, GW, VHS, doomfire ring
Lvl 2 Wiz: dispel scroll, ring of volans
Lvl 2 Wiz: rod of power, wizard staff
The other slot is used by a BSB, although sometimes he is switched with a naked warrior priest for that dispel dice.
The second wizard generally takes death or fire, the staff helping cast those high-cost spells
The first wizard has lore of life and is there to annoy people.
Oi! Get off me beard!
With the Ring of Volans, do you have the option to take the first spell from the list you choose, like normal magic selection?
sorry to disagree, but on p.69 of the army book it clearly says "randomly select one spell" you cant change the result just because you dont like it

Don't have the book handy with me, but I believe the entry states that you select the spell though you would any other spell. Either way, that's how I've been playing it, and the VW uses that ruling iirc.
