well i looked at it and used it in a game and i am wondering is it at all useful personnaly i never rolled a 5 or six with it
Odds are you're going to find the mark twice in a six turn game. I've used it in 4 games only, mainly because I hardly ever employ an engineer. If I remember correctly, it home 3 times in the first game. then once, twice, and once in subsequent games. And it only blew up on the sender once.
I guess the thing you have to consider when targeting with the pigeon bomb is hitting targets worthy of making back your 25 point investment.

Never used the Pigeon tbh. Reason is that you need an Engineer to use it and I'd rather use the other cool characters available to the Empire.
Should try it out one day.
I'm with ArchonFarseerGuy, the other Empire characters are more useful than the engineer. The engineer's sniping role can be filled as well (if not better than) by handgunner marksmen and outrider champions. I would only consider taking an engineer in large games, or in small themed forces.
That said, if you're not really bothered about game performance, the pigeon bomb does add a bit of fun to the army and they're very in character for engineers.
Well, in bigger games the unlimited range of the pigeon bombs might come in handy (and in such big games you gonna have enough slots so that slipping in an engineer won't disturb your organization too much).
But otherwise, an engineer equipped with them is more expensive than a mortar; which is likely to scatter, i admit, but barring malfunctions the template will at least land somewhere (and most malfunctions won't hurt the crew)
It ain't easy bein' green... :-)
what I don't get is why you would pay for something that is just as likely to hurt you as it will the enemy! to use it you virtually have to spend more pts on extra protection on the engineer to save him from his own weapon!
