I was bored and decided it would be great to make the biggest cheese fest of an army to take to an upcoming tournament and well I just started playing empire so I am not to sure what is the ultimate 2250 point army with 2 steam tanks i am personally leaning to 2 stanks
2 units of 5 Inner Circle Knights
1 unit of 6 Knights
2 generals of the empire (plain)
1 Karl Franz on a dragon
3 units of spearmen/swordsmen
1 great cannon
My overall idea is to have so many beefy large targets that they may be able to take out one, but all 3 of them with knights? I sure as h*ll hope not
Any input on a more smashing lord or whether I should ditch said g cannon or get mortars and wats not.
Cheese is a 2K force that looks like this:
Volkmar (complete in his Waltar glory)
As many units of 10 XBowmen/Handgunners
If you want an example, I provided one in The VW MkIV (the fact that I got eliminated Round 2 says nothing)
Ive seen cheese in 2000pts and it looked like;
Franz on his dragon,
3 units of 10 state troops just to sit in table quarters,
and i think 1-2 mages with scrolls.
I really like the mass cannon idea, but the one thing i hate about my army right now is 2 dispell dice and 2 dispel scrolls(on commanders) so after 1 or 2 turns the enemy (praying to god that he dose not have the ultra lore of metal spell) can start casting whatever he wants at me.
So im thinking of trying out the 2 wizards, that coulde be pretty cool
What about the knights, are they really that uncheesalistic of a unit?
If you plan to take wizards, max out on their points allowance on scrolls.
I think I found out a fourth cheese unit to the army knights of the inner circle
I made a unit of 9 of them w/ standard and champion (2 ranks) and then added the Batle standard to it w/ the griffon banner. Then i get a grand total of a plus an extra 4 to res and 1 more if i outnumber so off the charge if i kill 2 enemy units(they must be really tough) then i have a plus 7 to resolution. Even if i get charged by cavalry i may loose 1 guy but then i will win combat by a nice 3 or more if i kill any of there guys
I don't know dude, I mean that is running more than 350pts and it only works if you keep the whole unit of knights intact which is hard to do with all the bolt throwers, cannons, lore of metal magic out there just to name a few. Plus, I find that griffon standard does alot better in rank and file troops, especially blocks of 30 swordsmen w/ a detachment of 3x3 swordsmen (You get the max benefit from the standard, you will almost always outnumber, you are fairly durable w/ WS 4 and 4+ armour save in combat and the detachment will negate ranks if you ever get charged and possibly if you charge). And if you are paying that much for it, I think that a tooled out war alter or a steam tank would do much better IMO.
I see what your saying about the griffon standard and i ditched it and got the fear off the charge one. I dont think you noticed but i already have the 2 stanks and franz on a dragon which are probably going to take all of the hits. Then if the cavalry does take a shot or two it is saving the stanks from that same shot which is probably worth it.
I wanfted that super powered cavalry unit because then i will have 4 euber fast hard hitting units, even if i do go down (not happening) the look on the enemies face will be priceless when they see that i have not only a dragon but also not one but 2 stanks and a kick *ss unit of cavalry
The only thing i fear is a super magic heavy army with 9+ power dice that chooses the lore of metal and goes first.
Maybe I'm missing something here but how do you manage to get 3 lords at 2250 pts when 1 is max? And 2 units of inner circle when 1 is max per army? And even if this list was legal, it doesn't look very powerful to me. You will get totally spanked by any mediocre VC army. You have no staying power and ZERO magic defense.
Ooops, missed the dragon and other steam tank. Yeah, that will be quite alot to deal with on it's own. But I think tarkin1980 does bring up a good point, you don't have any magic defense (and were you thinking captains instead of generals?). However, keeping in the theme, you might want to take a mounted warrior priests w/ them, makes them more effective w/ hatred, adds his own attacks to the mix and adds dispel dice and prayers to boot. Oh, and don't forget the magical resistance banner and sigil of sigmar to give yourself additional protection if you don't want to sacrifice a ton to get dispel dice.
