    Starting up Empire

Hello, everyone! Sometime this week I will be starting up my next army: Empire. I know I will be buying the army box set and the book, but beyond that I'm not sure what I should pick up. I thought about a militia, I only ever hear good things about them.

So if anyone has a good starting point for collecting an empire army, I would be very appreciative.

It's just like starting up any other army.

Get the rulebook, a starter set, assemble them, get painted and you're away.

When deciding what to buy next, look at what your force needs, and get it. In one of my first games, I decided that I needed a good magic defence, and some hard hitters. I then got a couple of wizards (which is now 4) and some knights.

Militia are great, but not as a backbone. Think of them as discs in your back. They work great with the spine (in this analogy, State Troops), but too many is a bad idea, mainly as you can't use Detachments. I use mine in 7-8 Detachments, and then will occasionally have a unit of 10-13. They're cheap, so I often have the points left over at the end to fit them in.
