I was just wondering about something. I might be able to get a deal on some of the old Empire Soldier Regiment boxes, but I wanted to know if they were older models than the new state trooper boxes?
I can't remember if the Empire got new state trooper models when they got their new army book awhile back. I'd rather not spend the money on old models if I can help it.
"I am the architect of fate!"
yes they are older models. Look in any of the books featuring an empire army prior to the new book and you'll see the style. Personally, while they were not great, they are probably better than the current edtion imo. They have puffy sleeves, but no ribbons and skulls and toothless, barefooted idiots in them. They just look like guys (see the woodsmen or free company boxes for similar style)
I like the older state troopers more than the current ones. I've got three whole boxes of them still on sprues, just waiting for the day I decide to have another go at an Empire army.

My army is made almost exclusively of the 6th Ed models. However, the new cavalry models are really nice.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
Really? Everyone loves the old models? Wow, that is a surprise, I love the new ones. The older ones were just really static and didn't have any sort of differentiation to them, really boring to the eyes. The new ones at least look like if they are ready to fight. And yeah, sure poofy shirts and all but you got to expect that from empire, they are based off of 17th century Germany. And not all of them are really all that bad, a good paint job can overcome the worst of it (I swear some of those handgunners in the book look like they are wearing PJs).
I'm after the old style Empire boxes myself, anyone know where to find any? Ebay has a few but all are painted and assembled.
Demandred, if your deal is from a UK based or online store please give me the info
I too like the older models, the current ones are good but the older one's fit my "modern Empire" look and feel more.
I like to include a few older ones, even though they are quite static, 1/8 of my current empire army is older stuff.
Buying painted models is no problem, buy brake fluid to strip the models!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.

Brake fluid doesn't cause any melting of the plastic or other (no doubt Chaos-spawned) unpleasantness then?
