An empire army.
I have already have a vampire army and i was thinking of switching sides so. I had the idea to start a themed Empire army. My theme will go off the idea of Knights Templar. I was wondering what you guys were thinking of how would it work out of course do the theme i would shy away from as much black powder as i could the acception being the cannon (they had those.)
The idea will be along the ideas of Sigmar astablishing an outpost in the south after defeating Nagash for fear of being attacked from the vampires again. This out post was led to the by one of his most trusted generals.(a man who he had to push away for he believed sigmar should be diefied during his life. A feeling that Sigmar did not like so he seperated his long time friend.) The general did not feel hated but felt blessed by the man he believed to be a god. After many hundreds of years the outpost flourshed due to trade with araby and the empire to the north. It has a strong economy and a strong navy to protect its trade intrests. To protect its borders its pesonal amy protect its intrist. The Knights Templar protect the city and the temple to sigmar (the first built predating the establisment of the cult of sigmar) Basically think of as their view of sigmar as in a way their are several different views of christendom.
OK, so from what I gathered from your post is that this is like a large outpost that now functions as an independent country?
Not entirely sure I know what you're asking either. You want to know how that type of army would work I assume?
Let me know what you're asking, and I'll be glad to help out.
should have been a little more specific i guess
firstly, do you think a list that uses very little black powder would be competitive.
secondly, im not sure were i was going with the fluff but hell why not there seprete countires now.
Thirdly, do you think model wise it would work for a color schemes alot of white with reds
1) Yeah, they can be competitive. It would suddenly become a lot harder to win, but it's accomplishable. Take a TGM, and an MSU-style knights force with a few cheap banners. Add some XBowmen for ranged support, and a unit or two of R&Fers (Greatswords, Swordsmen etc).
2) You could make it that they still pay taxes etc to the Empire, so can call on reinforcements whenever they see fit or something like that.
3) Depends on the colours, but yeah, I think it would look fine. Take a look at the Talabeclanders (or Talabheimers, not too sure which one now). I use darker colours, myself (grey and dark red) and they look pretty cool.
Hey I am in the process of ordering my new Emprie minis as well, so I'm new to FB and cant advise you realllya ll that much on tactics (esp im going a heavy blackpowder army) but I can help you out with the Templar fluff.
Try grabbing a knight and one state trooper and paint them up in the Templar colours, and then post them here for comments. White Red, and metallics. Also being so close to Araby and often fighting in the desert will mean that their uniforms will be dusty and worn down with age, like Bret Questing Knights.
Actually Bret Knights would make better models to represent Templar Knights but you could still play with the Empire rules. If you dont want to use the Brets then Knights of the Blazing Sun or Reiksguard would make good models. Just make sure that they are equipped with lances, very Templarish.
As for the cannon I dont think the Templar Knights had access to those, certainly not Hellblasters or Great Cannon or anything of that sophistication. Therefore Id make do with crossbows for missle fire. Lots and lots of crossbows.
Come to think of it, Brets would be a much better choice if you wanted to have a real, fluffy Templars army, but its up to you. Empire are more 1400-1600 while Templars and Brets are around 1100-1200.
Thanks for the ideas i like the idea for using bret knights for the cav but i also would like to have a strong inf force as well( i love inf)
lack of black powder can be very competitive, back when i used dwarves i never fielded and handguns only crossbows and boltthrowers, mebbe a magic cannon for the reroll but bthats by the by, crossbows, still core, still cheap, 6 inch extra range, still str 4, setup a bit further back into your deployment zone and watch in joyful glee as your opponents realise you cant be charged first tun by dancing dire wolves of flappers with funky extra movement rules however they try it these days.
also when they see u play empire they expect to get the first turn as they know u know ur just out of that magical 24, well not anymore baby come out punching left and right first turn as you unload a full salvo of missiles first turn i have in times past wiped out armies in one turn of very good shooting. never dismiss the punch it gives you to cause his meat screen to dissapear turn 1, yeah they may be maurauders or horesmen or 10 skellies which he intends to magic back but thats precious resourse they ur opponent has to use up on his turn.
anyways im waffling, long story- short version crossbowmen have 6inch, ask any woman it makes the difference.
