Cold one knights, Blood knights, Black Knights, Chaos knights, and Grail Knights all seem better. Are Empire knights/Inner circle still useful?
If a Million Guardsmen die, that's a statistic. If one marine dies, that's a tragedy.
Of course they are. Just because they're not the best out there doesn't mean they're ineffective.
Remember Empire Knights are a Core Choice - most of those other ones are Special or Rare. How many 1+ save units are there that are a Core Choice, and have their numbers only constrained by your point limit. 2000 pts could give you 50-60 Knights+characters 7 banners.
They're still useful.
I'm currently looking to start a knightly order army myself and i reckon there are good odds of it working. with warrior preists to lead them knights are pretty solid compensating for their low weapon skill with hatred re-rolls and banking on their high armour to weather the combat knight can punch through enemy lines. perhaps not at the same level as the big knights out there but still credible.
the trick i reckon is support charging, the empire army is one of combined arms and throwing knights in alone is foolhardy. combo charging with pistoliers in the enemy flank tips the balance nicely and also provides the knights with an ability to soften up targets before they slam in.
they might not be in the same league as the top knights these days, but it doesn't mean they aren't effective
use the artillery to soften targets while your knights and pistoliers attack more isolated units on the flanks, pick apart the enemy on your terms
spambot kill tally: 79
[16:19] <@Alzer> Arky's right though
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> I know he is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> He usually is.
[16:20] <@Kaiser-> Sometimes it's intentional.
[00:01] <+zubus> i love you, ya skirt wearin nothern monkey! ^_^
Agree with all the above. Having a 1+ heavy cavalry unit as Core, with a high WS character leading them, enables the Empire army to sweep across the battlefield.
The fact that you can still use the Special and Rare choices to field pretty hard artillery, means that you can easily field an army that will hammer the opposing knights, allowing your own knights free reign on the battlefield to pick on enemy infantry

Jus be careful with the Pistoliers - now that they have got rid of the Fusilade Rule, pistoliers who flank charge units often end up doing nothing, and then being cheap CR for the opposition. I've had a few instances where they have been reduced to to models or less (US4), and so failed to remove the rank bonus.
Other good options for an all-Knight army are Kurt Helborg, The Demonslayer Banner, The Steel(?) Banner, and/or (if you are willing to take 15 Knights), a BSB with the Griffon Banner.
knights are very effective againt even the aforementioned harder cavalry of other races. in the empire army list name one other unit that could stand even a round toe too toe with the big bad chaos knights or blood knights? you wont win, but if u get the charge you might kill 2 that puts the knights points back for the unit.
for the points ws4 ld 8 units as core in a empire army, how on earth can they not be worth it?
big unit of 10 or even 12 cause you can afford it, hah heavy cav which outnumbers and had a rank.
nope no way u look at it knights have no downsides. just dont expect them to stand multiple turns with anything. if it wont break then your knights will as after the charge they have 0 killing power.
