I have always liked Empire and when I used to collect (10yrs ago - see blog etc)I did 'start' to collect them. By start I meani got a box of Halberdiers and thats it lol. Now I am back into collecting AND have got my SM to 1000pts I think a foray back in fantasy is in order.
The purpose of this topic is get thoughts and opinions from Empire collectors about where to start (apart from the Army book of course ). Like what models do you suggest to start, what would you have for a good round 500pts to aim for etc.
Just dont want to go rolling into 1 without a good base really. So whatever opinion or thought you may hold will be great.

I'm just starting Empire as well, after buying Knightly Orders ten years ago, so we're in the same boat.
The new or old battalions are great starters. You'll definitely need more state troops but they are a good launching off point. I'd make a few priminary lists for 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 points just to see what types of armies you are into. That way if you never quite have the points or excitement to include certain units, you can avoid buying them.
My first purchases will be...
Battalion (haven't decided old or new yet)
I'm shooting for a Sigmarite themed list with lots of priests and flagellants. These models should get me to 1000 points.
Hope this helped.

It really depends on what you want to have!
I'm running a knightless gunline, but you might like some knights?
All in all, a warrior priest is always a nice idea on 0,5k, his hatred and dispel die are a very useful addition. As to a common list you can take a block of knights, and perhaps some xbowmen or handgunners, but really, we can advice much better when we know what sort of army you want!
Got a "good" rumour from a GW staffer? Forget about it, LO'ers know more than any random GW shop staffer.
