An odd topic, I'm sure. Does anyone have a recommendations for a base for Cannons, Mortars and Hellblaster Volley Guns?
I think the chariot base'll be too big and the 40mm square Monster Base too small. I want all my bases to be the same size. Two cavalry bases stuck together?
I know I'm awkward, just humour me
I took the rank plastics from GW, the ones you use to make ranking up bases for your troops. So now my mortar and volleygun base is the same size as a few large infantery bases.
Thought it might be smart for the future, you never know what rules come out.
Ah brilliant, I'll give that a try. Thank you!
Personally, I'd just make my own. Get a bit of whatever material you want to use for a base, make some measurements, glue and snip, apply paint, the mystery step then profit. Then again, I tend to get rather cheap on such matters. That said, the added customisability can't hurt.
Finally, WD314 has some very cool scenic bases. Although they're for Dwarf warmachines (following the rules for entrenchments, for that matter), there should be no problems adapting them to your own pieces, especially if you explain to your opponent that they don't actually grant hard cover (or just "forget" about it if you want) or whatever.
Alternatively, follow Zema's advice. He's a better modeller than I'll ever be, after all.
I made my own by cutting up a sheet of plasticard and sticking the various accessories that come with the sets, barrels, extra ammo etc. Just remember to leave somewhere clear for the crew to stand.
Personally, I'd advise against putting bases on your artillary. The best place for a cannon and it's crew is actually 1 3/4" inside a forest. It makes it more difficult to charge and shoot at. Your base will get in the way of most terrain features like that. Having them skirmish also makes it easier to fit in between other closely deployed units. Empire has some of the hardes deployment issues already. Don't make it harder for yourself. I based two of my bolt throwers with my High Elves and while they look great - they are harder to transport and cause all the problems I just mentioned - I'll never base anything I don't have to again.
