Hello folks, I realise I'm posting alot, but I've just got my Empire book back.
I've only used Master engineer only once, as attachment to Mortar in a Siege battle. He was extremely useful, mainly due to my rolling affinity for 'Jam' on artillery dice, and redirecting slightly wayward distances.
But I've never seen him really worth taking in most battles, for his points you can almost get another mortar!
I know he can be used with mechanical steed and assortment of other weapons, but isn't a captain more effective?
Please discuss your use of this eccentric little fellow....
Cheese… milk's leap toward immortality
I don't use him.
If they upped his BS to 5 I might reconsider.
The Land, The Lady, The Light.
when I have used the Engineer, yes he seems more effective with mortar then with cannon crews.
while the HochLand long rifle has it's uses, I have generally seem him kill more foes with a repeating handgun then the hochland long rifle. he once killed 3 Dark Elf Scouts (6th edition) in one round that were closing in on us.
For the points, if you want an HLR at that BS you're better off getting another squad of handgunners.
I've never used one. His BS isn't high enough for a shooty hero.

Our Captains are boring...
Our Engineers are not viable...
Our Battle Wizards don't compare to others...
Our Warrior Priests are AWESOME!!!
I was going to say, yeah, an Imperial Captain is not exemplary but they are effective. And a Army BSB is needed in the Empire army list IMHO.
A master Engineer is too pricy for what he does. His BS is nothing special. Captains are better shots and better fighters. You could have pistoliers or handgunners for the same cost.

What would be an instance where he was actually useful? I know it's pretty much a consensus that he's no good, but we should be able to find a feasible (though not necessarily super competitive) way of fielding him.
