hi im in foreign territory at the moment but i need to help my friend..or he might stop playing warhammer
me and my friend have played MANY games me as orcs him as Empire (hence asking you ppl ) and he has won about 2 games and on those games he had 50:50 empire and dwarf.
i think 2 things my friend has a bad list and doesnt use what he has well
so im going to post what i know he has...possibly with exceptions if i forget anything appologies and ask you what i should suggest he should do...including what lore to take Please Help
he has a warrior priest, wizard, captain things and an engineer
Hellblaster volly gun
thats what he has and if u guys can come up with a brillient way to make that into a 1500 point and tell me how to use it so i can tell him that would be awesome...if you have suggestions for models i know he is considering making it a unit of 40 spears and maybe a few mortars but more then that i dunno
So Empire people of the world ADVICE =]
thinking about it this could turn into a how to beat orcs( for anyone struggling) tactica...should i be worried?

I know one problem that I had with my first few games was the leadership structure even with a BSB. Hero-wise my list was similar but I switched up a Warrior Priest for an Arch Lector which gave me +1 leadership for my general's bubble and an extra dispell dice for a total of +2 for a base point difference of 35.
Also the use of detachments are fantastic when fighting blocks of infantry and overall helping in combat.
Items to consider would be Hochland rifles for the champions of Handgunner units so that he can snipe off you're Heros or champions.
There are a few really nice magical items, hopefully hes taking them.
I'm still pretty new at the game so I'm sure that more experienced players can give you better advice, but this is what I've found out to improve my list.
I’m no Empire Genius but this is what I’d do….
1) Knights, if you want these to be a decent hammer unit I’d go for at least 12 or 11 and a hero. 8 is just an odd number. To wide to do as 1 rank and to few to get a rank bonus (and therefore ignore ranks). Or, you could use them as a small unit of 6 to charge small enemy flankers or archer units. As they are though, they’re just to few to make much of an impact. The Flaming banner on these guys is always good so they can take down Regenerating things like Trolls or Hell pits.
2) Spearmen I’d make 30-40 strong. Taking an empire General and then giving these guys the Razor standard is somewhat fun if expensive. Then give these guys the halberdiers as a detachment.
3) If he’s having trouble with you in combat a Shadow Wizard Lord can help even the odds. Either buffing his guys up to stupid strength or reducing your Orcs to str or Toughness 1. Pit of shades is always nasty against Orcs too.
4) Mortars. Nasty against Orcs and/or Goblins. Especially if you reduce their Toughness with Shadow Magic
He could achieve some results by using the Helblaster as a Helstorm rocket battery. Str 5 large template is good against orcs and goblins. It's the same model constructed in a different way. I just got some pop rivets and painted them, and I put them down the barrels of the Helblaster whenever I want to field it as a Rocket battery. I would field this rather than the steam tank, as you can;t take both in 1500pts. Without the steam tank though, he is struggling to make the 1500pts with what you say he has left. Don't leave home with out your Engineer - put the cannon and the Helstorm together, and he can re-roll either one.
Pistoliers are very good to take out any war machines you have.
The Lore of the Mage is quite important. At 1500 pts, I would take Shadows or Death with a Level 2 Mage. That means you can take an Arch Lector as a Lord, and give him the Crown of Command. Put him in the biggest unit you have and make it stubborn. Take a vanilla BSB and the leadership bubble is pretty strong re-rolling on 9's. For another hero choice, maybe take a Warrior Priest to make another unit have Hatred and Unbreakable.
The key weakness is those Knights. They are not really adding anything to the list, as pointed out by Lord Borak. As they are, they need to charge with an infantry unit, rather than buy themselves. Just field them slightly behind the infantry, so they can't be charged, but within easy charge range of any potential targets.
The careful application of terror is a form of communication in itself - Zutta Law #4.
thanks for all the advice i will pass it on =]
