So theres a new guy at my club who has been running skaven and just giving me an AWFUL time, so close but just cant crack the skaven nut so im looking for advice?
Any weapon combos, troop choices, etc that you would reccomend? and tactics to employ? I find my mortars work wonders until his gutter runners show up and poison them to death, the same with the steam tank (great v hellpits but ends up being poisoned). Also any advice on how to deal with his warmachines? Ive tried a captain on a peg but he keeps getting shot before he can get stuck in.
I find light wizards and warrior priests in large blocks of halberdiers work well against skaven. Nothing says dead rats like WS10, I10, S4 attacks with hatred! Not that you really need hatred but if you're aiming for overkill you might as well go the whole way.
As for protecting your war machines, I'd say a mob of 5 Outriders. Being fast cav means that they can get back into the action once they pop the gutter runners.
I don't really have any ideas about his war machines but then again I haven't played empire in a few months because my brain is full of ogrey goodness. Sorry.

I know one thing that always kills me fighting against Skaven is their storm banner... which effectively nulls any normal shotting attacks you have, as well as half of you're war machines until the banner if finally rolled out of existence.
Dwellers below is a nasty spell against Skaven it can help to get rid of that large block of clan rats. I am unsure about one thing though, If you successfully cast Dwellers below on a unit of Clan rats does the war machine thats attached to them also have to take a strength test?
One other thing that you can try is sniping off the war machines with cannons, snipers, and death magic.
