    steel standard

What's it look like? Any ideas? I'm sure there's no canon GW version, but I just have zero inspiration right now, and that's bugging me, cause I've always had a vision for my banners, like these:

Now, they're by no means at all the be all to end all, but at least I had an idea of what I wanted them to look like... when I think "steel standard" for a squadron of knights... I draw a blank!

    Help?

I would do one of the old school crests with a knight's helmet on it. I have something in mind that I painted but it's not on hand at the moment. Or you could just paint it silver! At least it would be WYSIWYG

Could be cool if you managed to make a standard out of chainmail.

But as far as emblem go, I think a mailed fist surrounded by a laurel, think imperial fists logo but with a laurel of leaves around it like a U

A really big Anvil with some hammers and swords.

Or a razor blade with "British Steel" written on it

Or a portrait of Churchill...that's real British Steel!

Anyway, I came up with a design, I'll put up a pic as soon as it's done, the rough outline is done, but it'll be hours of painting at my typical snail's pace before I finish it...

Madlarkin, I would have jumped on the mailed fist surrounded by a laurel wreath if I hadn't already started on my own idea...your idea on the background I selected would have been awesome...especially with the Kennedy (no particular afinity for the family, but I love the motto) motto worked in somehow, it just screams strength, especially when paired with your image of a mailed fist surrounded by a wreath: "the strong hand uppermost"

Anyway, I'm going with three rows of checking that then continue as stripes, alternating seven wide, blue over red. Over that, a twin-tailed comet with a germanic script "S" on it. Oh, and since the banner tails off pretty narrowly, I put a solid field of red at the tail to avoid the problem of the stripes getting too narrow to paint. Staff-side of the checking is solid blue, and the finial is the laurel-crowned skull, with white streamers. It's gonna be awesome... But I hope I remember the madlarkin idea if I ever need a second cavalry banner.
