Am fairly new to Warhammer, and wanted to know if I am interpretting something correctly, and what other people thought.
Do Free Companies get two attacks? The rules say that they have two hand weapons, so I read that as being each one had two attacks.
If this is so, and you give them light armour, do they make good Parent units as well as detachments?
I am trying to theme my army, possibly around the militia, but people seem to avoid them for some reason, and just use them for detachements.....
FREE BORN FOREVER
Well I don't have my book with me at the moment, but IIRC the reason why they aren't usually used as parent units is because of their LD and no character may join them (I'm going from memory here, so sorry mistakes).
As detactments they are great, 2 attacks each so from a unit of 10 (5x2) your getting 10 attacks. Yes S3 isn't all that great, but throwing that amount of attacks at a unit and you're bound to cause some damage.
Oh and yes, the two hand weapons gives you 2 attacks.
OOPPSS....re-reading my book, i realise i may have used the wrong word. Militia are not allowed to be parent units, but are allowed to be individual units and detatchments.
The reason I am confused is that they have exactly the same stat line as Halberdiers and spearmen. Also if you give them the light armour, they cost the same number of points as well?
Not sure if they can or can't have characters joined to them?? (Am sat with the book at work to be fair) and can't see it saying either way.....
Ah well then as I said my book is er..indisposed, so I'm unsure. But if it doesn't say so then they usually can, BUT IIRC then charcaters cannot join detactments.
free company are very good, and a milita army sounds like a good theme.
just find a reason in your fluff to have knights, pistoliers and war machines
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>i know, in todays world, the weak are protected, so evolution is now non-existant for humans. To keep the race moving forwards, there should be tests to see if you are good enough to have kids- k-tana</div>
Quick update, I have now posted my Army list in the Empire Army section. Please feel free to look and crit it....
