The idea with this army is that small force of knights (13) is fallowing some chaos army or such, and cannot without more troops, so he bribes a captian of a ship to help him for gold, (All the cannons, and missile troops, and all of the soldiers have long weapons to poke across boarding planks and such) anyway, the ship also has some ogre mercenaries, as hellblasters don't seem very ship like, I only took one, and flagglenets don't really fit in either that's why I took the ogres, I'm not sure if 6 cannons is cheesy though. <_<

i) yea that is a lot of cannons. your sure you don't wanna throw some mortars in there?
ii) personally i'd always take a unit of pistoliers. they're knights-in-training anyways.
iii) luther huss isn't all that good, if ya want a beefy WP get an arch-lector.
iv) no swordsmen? i know you've got fluff on it, but spearmen/halbrediers are both mediocre and free company on their own are somewhat weak. plus what happens once the troops get across to the other ship or vice versa.
v) the handgunners are in a pretty damn big unit, good luck moving them around, might wanna split them up.
vi) are you sure many spells will be coming at the free company? if i was launching any spells, it wouldn't be at the FC, it would be something that i'd really worry about in combat.
vii) helblaster is so fluffy for a ship, it's just a close range cannon concept.
viii) why so many crossbows? i thought handgunners would work better on the ship.
ix) wouldn't greatswords also work in there since they're knights on foot?

if you want fluff for Empire on the sea:

Nordland
state colours blue and yellow
capital Salzenmund

The Sea of Claws lies off the Nordland coast – the only Imperial province to have a direct link with the sea. Because of this, Nordland has been a favoured target of Dark Elf raiders, seeking slaves and other plunder. It is hardly surprising then that Nordlanders reserve a particular hatred for the Druchii.

Nordland is home to part of the Imperial Navy (the remainder docks at Altdorf, reaching the sea via the wide and deep River Reik), and the province has many regiments that are adept at naval operations – the Nordland Mariners are the most famous of these. Finally, Nordland derives a certain degree of influence from its Coastal Road, the preferred route to Marienburg from the cities of the north (a far less hazardous journey than the one through the Drakwald Forest). The road is notorious for its many and extortionate toll gates.

Nordland has long had links with Middenheim: These date from 2368, and the marriage of Brunhilde Todbringer to Baron Ludwig Nikse, Elector of Nordland. More recently, Anika-Elise Nikse was married to Boris Todbringer, and he is said to have never recovered fully after her death (which was under mysterious circumstances, and alleged to have been the work of Chaos Cultists). In the past, the province also had strong links to Marienburg – in fact, the Elector Count still hold the (empty) title of Prince of Marienburg, but is forbidden to enter the city on pain of death.

Nordland’s most famous hero was the Elector Count Enrich Moltke, slayer of Dieter Helsnicht the so-called Doomlord of Middenheim. Moltke ran the necromancer through with his Runefang at the battle of Beeckerhoven; the body was never found, and some claim that the Doomlord haunts the Drakwald Forest to this day.

Nordland makes greater use of artillery than is usual for a northern province – much of this comes from the fleet, re-deployed onto land to support the infantry. As a result, the Cannon and Mortars are typically mounted on four-wheeled naval carriages. The Helblaster Volley Gun is occasionally employed by the navy as anti-flyer defence for the mighty Greatships, but is mounted on a specialised swivelling devise unsuitable for use on land.

The army of Nordland

Characters
Elector Count, possibly riding a Griffon
Templar Grandmaster of the Knights of Manann
Wizard Lords and Battle Wizards (especially Grey or Celestial)
Warrior Priest of Sigmar, Ulric or Manann (see the religion section)
Captain, possibly riding a Pegasus

Core
Swordsmen (marines), Spearmen, Halberdiers, Archers, Huntsmen, Free Company, Crossbowmen and Handgunners
Knights of Manann
Knights of the White Wolf

Special
Greatswords
Great Cannon
Mortars
Pistolers (roadwardens)

Rare
No Helblaster Volley Guns, Steam Tanks or Flagellants
Mercenary Duellists (sailors), Norse Marauders and Dwarfs (Norse Dwarfs)
Long Drong’s Slayer Pirates

Kislev Allies are very appropriate
i'd like to thank rufus sparkfire on the warhammer-empire.com forum for gathering all this and much more on the other states and major city-states.

as long as he's keeping his army fluffy, how would steam tanks work their way in? what knight owns a stank, and what ship carries one, two much less, on board? besides, so many hate the stank, it's hard to get away with one, but two. any victory, regardless of the stanks involvment, won't be because of your skill, but of the stanks mere pressence.
he's fine for characters, 3 lords, 7 characters total. couldn't he even fit in another hero if he wished?

I think you should maybe give your grandmaster a VHS because it works like a charm with me. And it works really nice when I face Chaos heros. (Y)

Ok, sorry I havn't been answering I thought nobody was answering and gave up with this topic.... anyway, how can I make the handgunners smaller 2 units 8 won't work.... <_< also the reason for all of the crossbowmen is because I thought they'de be good as crew, I could convert some of them into hand gunners.... Also I have a very british navy thing, red coats, white pants, black hat, the problem with this is what on earth are ogres doing in the british navy? So I should ditch Luthor? :hmm:

yea for awhile no one was answering, then ultra r cool answered and brought it back to the top.
why wouldn't 8 work? or 16 even? i'd rather field them as units of 5.
that's fine with crossbows as long as you have the fluff for it. it's one of those controversal units, one isn't clearly superior to the other.
as to iron guts, wouldn't led belchers fit great?
iron guts fluff, think big burly pirates, just lugging around barrels of black powder and such. i'm sure they'll fit great, they where on the list before anyways. though they may be more slaves then really co-existing...

Well unless I use them as detachments they have to have 10+... But I guess I could start them off as detachments and then just not move them after the main unit, and they still get the bonusess of detachments if they don't move, the reason for the big unit of free company is it's supposed to be like the captians personal guard, that's why they have light armor and a banner and everything....

wouldn't led belchers fit great?
Leadbelchers dont really belong in an empire army tacticly speaking, The empire has enough firepower as it is, and that rare slot could be used for a helblaster instead. On the other hand if you have more of a CC feel to ur army they would fit good because they can use thier cannons as weps. All in all i wouldent really take them, use the pts for something that wont blow up early and can make a big difference (stank).

ya sry bout the spam, I couldent resist saying it :hmm:
