If I can field the same weapons that an Engineer can field on my hand-gunner unit then why field him? His Ballistic Skill isn't even improved. I wish that they could have given him a cool magical Engineer only item at least.
Well you you get an extra Marksmen basically. I don't think you should really field him in a handgunner unit, but with a cannon, or mortar crew, that way can take more advantage with the engineer's special rules like "Master of Ballistics" or "Extra Crewman" rather than just use his weapon. The engineer would be better off kickin around the crew of a cannon or mortar than shooting at foes.Originally Posted by Errant Squire
But then again it won't hurt having magic either
50 points for a cannon or morter re-roll doesn't seem to be worth it. Maybe if you could field him with the Hell Blaster it would be worth spending the points.
Thats the thing about it, you can't field an enginner with a helblaster. But IMO it is worth saving, you can reroll an artillary dice or scatter dice with an engineer an could potientially cause more damage, save your cannon or mortar, and earn your points back for the engineer. The Engineer is arguably the most underpowered unit in the game...unless you have him go hunt Greater Daemons with Van Horstmann's Speculum. Beauty.
which is also very un-fluffy I think...
I think the Master Engineer is a very good character thanks to the Master-ability, also I like to bring him with me only cause I like the models and the fluff behind the character
Fluffy or unfluffy, he needs a major rehaul. Why not give him spell-like abilities to represent his many gadgets (I know...Go-go gadget copter) and contraptions he carries on his person, like smoke powder, or the Amazing Lead-Launching Garden Ornament (Claymore mine)?
So, in short, another variation of the warrior-caster but in this case not a caster, just a fella with many special rules. I like it
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
I guess all I'd really like to see is an Engineer with a BS 5 for 10 to 15 points more for the basic cost. A captian has BS 5 and is only 50 points, and a serious powerhouse at that (compaired to the basic human).
Actually a Handgunner's BS is 3, an Engineer's is 4.Originally Posted by Errant Squire
