If someone told you to buy the Empire Free Company what would that be? On the US GW Online Store no such item exists. Would it be the Militia Box? That seems like it could be it. Or, would it be the Detachment box? I believe there used to be an actual box called Free Company that allowed you to make Free Company, Archers, Huntsmen, Handgunners, Halberdiers, Greatswords and Crossbowmen. But, I think GW may have split that up now for all or at least most of those. Any and all constructive help is welcomed.
In the Detachment box are 8 Spearmen and 8 Handgunners.
The Empire Soldiers box you can assemble into Halbediers or Swordsmen.
From the Militia box you can make a wide variety as Free Company, Crossbowmen and Archers (and Huntsmen). They're also usefull to make Warriors of Ulric (CoU list)
Greatswords come in blisters of 3 I believe. Though US Online Store sells several blisters as a boxed set too I believe.
Well, yes and no. To make a proper squad of Spearmen you'll probably need 2 or 3 boxes, so it's expensive. But, the Battalion gives you a small-ish squad of Spearmen and Handgunners, and you'll egt extra, too.

Yeah not too shabby. I will keep in mind although I don't think Greatswords are in the 1k list. Please see the army lists board for Empire for the list I'm talking about: http://www.librarium-online.com/foru...ad.php?t=49265 (1k Empire List)Originally Posted by Sir Theobold the Lame
About the Detachment boxes, I wouldn't dismiss them too fast. With the other boxes, you buy one and get 1 full unit (or part of it if using very large units), except with the Militia box, out of which you can get several small and supportive units.
With the Detachment box, you buy two boxes and get two usefull units. Or buy 3 boxes and you have 1 large Spearman unit of 24 max and 2 Handgunner units of 12.
So if you like Handgunners, it's a most interesting buy.
I did notice the handgunners and thought that rather nice, although not as nice as Dwarven ones, and aside of bitz ordering this is the only way to acquire them in large enough numbers...correct?Originally Posted by Araith
