just a fun topic to discuss you favriout detachments..
Mine- Main unit: Halberds or swordsmen or greatswords
Detchment one: Free Company or Halberds
Detachment two: Handgunners or Free Company
well whats yours?
what do you hink is most effective out of all the choices posible?
and off the cuff what do you think of halbers just as a unit?
P.S. Blood angels rule, the anger lets us ignore wounds ...hehehe
Parent Unit: Spearmen
Detachment 1: Free Company
Detachment 2: Halberders
The Spearmen get charged, and the detachments counter-charge. The Free Company have alot of attacks back, hopefully doing some damage to the original charger. The opponent then attacks, hopefully not doing much to threaten the Spearmen. The Spearmen then have two ranks of attacks, hopefully moppping up the enemy, if not, the Halberders crush 'em.
Well, on a good day, anyway.
my detachments i usely use are
Parent unit - spearmen/swordsmen/halbs
Detachment 1 - 10 freecompany/6-10 handgunners
Detachment 2 - 10 freecompany/6-10 handgunners
Or crossbow, it just really just depends what army i am fighting, the extra shooting proves useful, taking 2 detachment of FC is good to.
Once my swordmen took a charge from 8 empire knights and my fc counter charged them and sent them panicing off the table which won me that game
My norm is a parent unit of spearmen with detachments of handgunners and free company. I haven't used them much yet, but it seems a nice balanced option.
Wood Elves 2/0/1
Orcs & Goblins 0/1/0
Next Army - Tomb Kings
I like a nice solid block of spearmen with the Griffon banner (?the double rank bonus, can't pursue one) with swordsmen as flankers. Usually 2 units of 10. I usually don't purse with the spears anyways rather I try to break the enemy in combat and pound em with missle fire as they run. If my missle units are tied up (or more likely fleeing) I can alway unleash the swordsmen to pursue. It doesn't matter how big the pursuing unit is as long as they can catch em.
I have always liked using either greatswords/swordsmen as a parent and 2 detachments of 10 free companies
Swords and spears as parent units with FC and Halbreds as detachments.
I will occasionally add misle troops as a detachment but more so they don't cause panic if the run.
I did once use archers as a sreen against woodies and found this VERY effective.
*** edit ***
detachments are FC and Halbredeirs to parents of Swords, spears and sometimes haldredeirs.
I once used archers as a sreeen against woodies and this worked very well.
Handgunners are good for a second detachment as when they run they don't cause panic.

Parent unit: 20 Great Swords w/Griffon Standard + Elector Count w/Laurels of Victory
Detachment 1: 10 Swordsmen
Detachment 2:10 Swordsmen
The Dark Wind Howls one of you shall shortly perish.-Magus Chrono Trigger
Dark Eldar, Biel-tan, Dark Angels, Tau, Raven Wing,
Death Wing, Cadians, Necrons, Tyranids, Demon Hunters,Orks
Chaos Dwarves, Lizardmen, Vampire Counts, Beastmen, Empire, Dark Elves, Skaven
detachment 1: 10 Free Company
detachment 2: 5 Archers
Thats my favourite combo, archers make a great screen if needed and can move and fire while the free company can be an effective counter charge.
Life is too serious to be taken seriously
10 free companies
What you are we once were. What we are you will become!!!
