Hey guys, I am still looking for my next fantasy project, I thought I was set for tomb kings chariot army, but I find the damned things to be impossible to put together for convertions!
And I was also looking for a more main stream army, as I play Ogres kingdoms, Wood Elves, Slayers and an Orc Boar Boyz only lists. See the pattern?
But then, while I was looking around, I found the Cult of Ulric quite attractive and maybe what I was looking for, but it is still a bit out there?
Any thoughts on these blood crazed wolf wannabes?
I thought about using the Bound spell flood, as the Ulric talismans aren't 0-1 per army, using them to food the magic phase without any chance of miscasting of under casting either. This would imply I would use the Ar-Ulric or Ar-Ulric Emile Valgeir as the general and a good amount of priests to support him.
Or go without some scroll cady priests, and strait Grand Master and is Seneschals to render the army rock solid, bieng immune to panic and psychology.
Well, if you want your army to be character-heavy, you can. Each unit (or only Warriors of Ulric) can take a Warrior Priest without occupying a hero slot.
Apart from the characters, it seems fluffy to me either to concentrate on the White Wolf order or on a more cult army. For the first I'd say Seneschals, for the second WP.
I like both flavours and they both seem feasable.
I have also comsidered a more militia list, with free company (WoU with second hand weapon), crossbowmen and archers, using Seneschals to represent veterans holding the regiments in place with thier inspirng presence.
This list would also include a heavy caracter presence, using all 4 slots at 2000.
Crossbowmen are not available to the Cult (They are to the Army of Middenland)
I thought about some daogs of war crossbowmen, they seem alright for thier cost, I should of specified ^_^
Well I do prefer the warrior priest list, as it as much more flavour to it. I think I'll stick to it, thanks anyway guys ^_^
I just got word of the defenders of midenheim, I think they have a much more interesting and wider list, except they don't get enhanced priests, or an Ar-Ulric.
Any thoughts of them? they would let me have better misiles, and possibly a cannon.
This is just my opinion, but AoM is crap. It has some Empire stuff and some Cultist stuff.
Let's see: No cheap Cult troops (who still can't use detachmentr rules), no Champions of Ulric.
Priests are weakened.
Countered by what? True magic and limited access to gunpowder. The army changes into a normal Empire army without a good-Ld footslogger Lord. To make it worse, you have to choose between Wolf-Kin and gunpowder in the Rare section.
So, IMHO: Normal Empire>AoM
CoU w/single Light Cannon>AoM
You want Ulric, go all the way. Want gunpowder, go all the way. There is no middle ground (Especially since AoM Crossbows also fight for slots with Ulrican troops)
Use Light, Beasts, Metal instead of Heavens
NecroLords: Use at least one Death Mage
Brets: Use Peasants&Damsels
Skaven: Don't use Skryre SAD
Some very good points there, and I guess can can only get some DoW units to counterbalance. A light cannon and a unit of DoW crossbowmen will have to do ^_^
