Is it just me, or are the detachment boxes real crap. Like you get 8 handgunners and you get 8 spearmen. I don't really have a problem with the handgunners, but SPEARMEN!! WHY SPEARMEN? They by far... make the worst detachments in the world. Personally I don't think people should even bother buying the detachment boxes.
I already got enough handgunners in the starter box, and enough spearmen in the starter box aswell. I think they should change the detachments to either FC or Halbieders.
What do you think.. Should they change them? If so... to what unit type.
It's pretty obvious to me that GW had a lot of extra sprues of these guys (since they also come in the boxed set) and some marketing genious came up with the "detatchment" box. They did something similar in 5th edition with the Bretonnian Knights that came in the box. It was a ripoff then, and it's a ripoff now.
The hilarious part is that whenever I found someone who bought the old 5th edtion boxed set and wasn't going to play Bretonnia, I'd buy ALL of the knights (12 I think) and ALL of their bowmen (24 I think) for like 20 bucks. I ended up with nearly 100 knights and 200 bowmen!!!
I had to buy one of those because I wanted more Handgunners and with the extra Spearmen I can make a nice little unit of 24 (26 with a spare musician and banner I had). So all in all it's not a rip off, I used the Spearmen as detachment in the past but not anymore and I have enought Handgunners for all my shooting needs.
What I find to be a rip off tho is the Militia box, because with those you can make almost all the other detachments, plus all your other missile troops including the hunters... I had to get at least 4 of those just to make sure I had enought FC, Hunters, Archers and Crossbowmen.
Anyway, I find that you if you buy a box of Empire detachment units it's only for one of the type of models in it and since there's not enought of them in the box you have to buy two of them, that way, if you want 24 spearmen you'll have to buy 3 boxes and if you want to have more Handgunners you'll also have to buy more boxes. I guess those 2 models weren't selling well on themselves and they found this strategy to sell some more. It is also a very good way to sell 16 plastic models for 35$ (CAD).
Have you ever noticed that the Empire Soldiers box have only 19 soldiers in it? It's not nearly enought to make a decent infantry unit and you have to buy 3 of those to make 2 units of 25 men!
I understand your problems. I wish you could build the models and then select which weapon to put on them - 16 of each one.
Yes, that would be great, a box of 16 models with 2 or 3 options for each models, like an all ranged weapon box, you have the bodies of Milita and Huntsmen and you can make either Handgunners, Archers or Crossbowmen, then another one would be a state troops detachment box where you would find 16 models that you could either equip with Hallberds, Spear and Shield or Sword and Shield.Originally Posted by Cairocopter
On the side of those, the option to buy a full command (musician, champion with all the options and a standard bearer) would complement those box set really well.
I would keep the milita (free company) box set of 20 models like it is tho so the option to equip them all with 2 hand weapons is still open.
Well that's what I would like to see.
The only thing I want to see... is GW making FC detachment boxes instead of buying them in units of 20. You can't make them in parent units, so what is the point? They can only be detachments and independent units. They better do it when they redo the empire army... then I'll be happy as a clam.
Hopefully that'll be soon, I think it will be because in the rulebook they are one of the only ones which have not been changed since the book has been published.Originally Posted by Magic69
I heard they change this summer. So it should be soon enough.
Good, the only problem is that my old collection will become outdated .Originally Posted by Magic69
Look on the bright side, at least we wouldn't be given crappy spearmen (hopefully) as detachments.Originally Posted by Cairocopter
