I've noticed in a few White Dwarf battle reports that certain players enjoy equiping their characters with a magic item called Van Horstmans Speculum. I wondered what this item does, and also whether it is linked any bad ways with (presumedly the same) Van Horstman who is now the champion of Tzeetch?
Time in reconaissance is seldom wasted...
van horstman allows you to swap stats with an enemy u are fighting in a challange and is very useful.
I find ie extremly useful when my elector count challanges a a khorne general since he cant decline the challane.
is Van Horstmans any good on a wizard (namely pyromancer or shaman)?
It could scare the living daylights out of an enemy hero if you set him up and keep him moving specifically to receive a charge from him.
Oh and are things like flaming sword of rhun applied before or after the stats are swapped?

If anyone wants any kind of help writing fluff for any kind of GW army just ask.
i think it would be a nice trick to put on a wizard teach that dude ridin a dragon a lesson.
I do not believe that u get boneses for your enemys magical weapons though i am not sure i do not have my book with me at the moment.
I have heard that Van Horstman's works extremely well on a wizard using Beast magic, specifically with the default spell The Bear's Anger; it can turn a lowly little hippy mage into a God slayer.
Mysterious Member of the ANZAC Clan
In a game with my VC against a friend's Empire, his wizard got into my count with that damned speculum and eventually killed my character. It was disgusting, and I never went after that character again. It's a really nasty magic item.
I wouldn't recommend it on a Wizard, as they will be hitting on a 5+ against decent heroes. You keep your WS, see.
My idea. Give it to a Sowrdsman Champion (we allow Champions to be given Magic Items) and challenge Grimgor. Use the Bears Anger in the Magic Phase and watch as he needs a 6+ to wound you, plus there's Armour , a VERY nasty suprise for him. Inf act, I don't think he CAN be wounded, as he'd ahve T6 vs S3.
Alternatvely, give it to a Warrior Priest. That would be pretty good as well.
