Hey. Already a defencive Dwarf player, I decided to get another hard hitting army to mix things up. Thinking about getting a pure Empire Calvary army, I just wanted to hear your opinons on how well this army list can stand up to oppents and is it worth getting because I dont want to waste any of my hard earned money. Thnx
I suppose that the important question for you to answer is:
Do you mean a Pure Cavalry force?
or an Order of the Holy Cannonball force?
OotHC = Lots of knights, no infantry, plus as many cannons/Helblasters as you can fit in
The thing is, if you're after a pure cavalry army, you'd almost be better off with Brets (sacrilige) because they can do the knight thing a whole lot better, but if you're after OotHC you need to know that most people think it's a little cheesy and lacking in tactical ability.
The Empire is possibly the most flexible army available, with lots of different ways to play it, but you have to think about something when designing a list. Will anyone else want to play against it? OotHC is one of those lists that you might find people reluctant to play against.

The Empire is a jack of all trades, master of none.
Generally speaking, you can't out-Knight a dedicated Knight Bretonnian list.
However I have only played a single game using a Grand Master, 5-man Knights with Musicians, and three 5-man Pistoliers; and it was against Bretonnians.
I was victorious but it mostly due to the fact that I had twice as many units as my opponent and could run circles around him. I let him fail charges against cheap 5-man knights and then would flank with a another block or shoot him from the flank with Pistoliers.
I haven't tried it since.
Obviously it would play differently against an infantry army or anything more balanced with shooting and magic capabilities.
