For the last couple of years of playing fantasy, ive always wanted to enter a tournament. However several things have prevented me from doing this. I originally played vampire counts(you cannot possibly IMAGINE how badly i sucked with them for the first couple of months),then lizardmen(got out of fantasy right as the army book came out) and then high elves. HE are a good army, but i found most of their tactics were specific against certain races, and therefore they werent the best in a tournament setting(one list, multiple opponents). My question is,is it possible to make an empire army that isnt tailored to take on a certain race, but still be effective? I mean, will a shooty empire army be playable against most opponents? Obviously shooty dwarves would give you a harder time than say a chaos army and such. Any thoughts would be appreciated on this matter
if you have a nice mix of war machines foot troops and cav then the army would do well, an all shooty ary would do well against some opponents apart from goblin army with lots of small wolf boys, skaven with tunnel teams and actually a lot of things would give you a hard time with fell bats, pegasus riders, gyrocopters...so a more balanced army would probably do better.
Alright thanks. I just really love the ideao of a defensive empire army, they seem suited for it with the whole detatchment rules handgunners and warmachines(although ive read they can do cav. armies really well too).
