posted a while ago with some interest in starting an Empire army (as I start WF. Quick question:
How many pieces are the Greatsword models? And if they're multi-piece, how well do they fit together. As I attempt to finish my current project before starting WFB, I'm being reminded of how much I hate trying to stick together poorly fitted metal models...
Come to think of it, same questions again for Flaggelants and the Steam Tank (which i'll have to have if I play Empire). I think those are all the metals Empire has, right?
EDIT: Okay, managed to find out the Greatswords are 1-piece, which is heartening. Still can't find out about the Flagellants though. I obviously know the Steam Tank is lots of pieces, but still am curious about how easily it goes together...
Flagellants are plastic now not metal
You will be glad to hear that greatswords are one-piece models! Hurahh!!
Unfortunately, the steamtank is a model example (Excuse the pun) of lazy GW engineering.
You will need more saws and files than a sado masochist with a dental fetish, a small vat of super glue, enough green stuff to replace the hoover dam and a large slice of patience!!
On the up side, it looks friggin` awesome when built and painted!!!!
Flagellants are plastic!? That's awesome!
So the only metal thing I'd really need to do, besides Heroes/Lords is a Steam Tank... And I can deal with spending some patience on a single model, especially a centre-piece, and one that has straight edges more than organic lines (I'm an engineering student, I prefer straight lines so much over trying to stick a metal model's arm in its socket...)
Oh boy, the things I've just discovered could single-handedly switch my thinking to getting an Empire army instead of Wood Elves. I've got some thinking to do. Big thanks guys.
actually you can get most of your heroes in plastic now. Heroes, generals, wizards all come on a sprue. All my war-priests, I built myself from other plastic parts (brettonian men at arms and middenheim sprue worked for my foot war-priest)
Are all WFB models eventually going this way, of nearly all plastic?
It does look as though they are gunning for all plastic eventually.
Originally plastic was introduced as a method to make the game more accessable, through cheap materials. (Does anyone remember Fantasy armies box set? 60 figs for £11.99, 10 of each popular race!!).
As the technology became better plastic was reserved for core choice regiments, with special and rare still metal. But with this introduction, the price began to climb to extortionate levels!!
Now with the introduction of plastic special and rare unite (Great cannon, flagellants etc) I can see the entire range becomming plastic, but for the same prices as the metal figs used to be.
When will the bubble burst?
I for one will never pay £12 for the plastic Empire general!!
