I'm thinking of starting an empire army, but being a 40k player (i still have to finish my EC AND Orko's, bad hezu, bad!) i had a question; why doesn't anyone give their detachment of halbediers shields? i must be missing something obvious, but what?
(i like halbediers with shields, i want to use bretonnian bitz to make them)
since the halbred is a 2 handed weapon, they woudlnt get to use the shields while fighting in close combat, so really youre only benefit from the shields is to protect against shooting. though they still wont stand up well to it even with shields....so im sure most people (and me) feel that those points are better used elsewhere...
but really, a few points here and there shouldnt stop you from making a cool looking army, so this might be a time to go for the cooler unit rather than the most efficent use of points
Actually HeZu in my list I do give my halbediers shields as its nice protection against some range and I also like the choice between using the halberd or the sword and shield. Its the same cost as swordsmen so its not really expensive espically since its only a detachment anyways.
Is it me or does any other necron player get annoyed when they see people saying "Necrons eat souls". How is that even possible as souls are part of the warp and necrons want nothing to do with it? Eh probaly me just me being picky.

Lictors got a good point. The Handweapon and shield combo can save your bacon if you get charged. Having a 4+ armour save and strength 3 can be better than a 6+ save and strength 4.

The "A Smart Player Will..." theory is a complete paradox. If we make an assumption that everything we do is outsmarted, then theoretically we can never win.
thank you all, most informative!
