So in a few days im play a big game at my local shop which is going to be the multiplayer "Capture the Tower of Moonrise" scenario...Ive seen from the signup sheet that 4 of my 5 opponents (on the evil side) are going to be Orcs and as im new to fantasy and have never played against them, are there any advice and tips for fighting Orcs that could help me out? Great Empire units for killing them or things i should be sure to watch out for with them?
Mortars, rocket battery!
Some missile troops (pistoliers to take out enemy fast cav).
Give your general van horstmans speculum as those orc characters can have great stats.
Also magic defence is crucial.
A couple of detachments to send forwards to flush out fanatics.
meh, mortars. Orks are toughness 4. hellstorm is a better bet. cannons, in case he takes a giant. I personally never leave home without a hellblaster.
why give the general the speculum? give it to a battle wizard, and laugh as the warboss strikes at s 3 Ws3 and T3, while your wizard becomes ws 8 s5 :w00t:
take cheap little detachments to lure out fannatics. then he will be unable to move forward due to fannatics spinning around in front of his dudes and you can pound him with range. :ninja:
also, beware the spell Gorks Warpath. its nasty as hell.

Well, I don't give the Wizard the speculum as I use it to dispel spells, so I have dispel scrolls on it. I would recommend having a bit of maigc defence against orks.
My general is an Archlector so swapping with an orc warboss is great. The reason I give it to this guy is that he can have a good armour save and can have a greatweapon, this makes him good against rank and file troops. Your wizard really shouldn't be in combat.
