Hey just wondering what the codex means when it says that for example Pedro Kantor has a standard captain initiative even though he has a power fist, do they take into account the power fist in the profile or assume that we reduce his initiative accordingly?

Cheers :)

Here is the second of my two lists for the upcoming tourney. This one may be easier to advise me on because it has no monsters in it. This list will be used only in certain scenarios where the attacker will have 3000 points and the defender 2250. The scenarios are usually quite even and the armies I'll be playing are varied, so I need a strong defensive all-comers list. I know I'm gonna get beaten in magic in this kind of scenario so I'm focusing on combat survivability and some long-range shooting boosted by shadow magic.

Lords- 129

General (greatsword unit)
Full Plate, Enchanted Shield, Luckstone, Sword of Striking
129

Heroes- 489

Battle Wizard (xbows)
Lvl. 2 Shadow, Dispel Scroll
125

Captain BSB (swordsman unit)
Full Plate, Dragonhelm, TaliEndurance
133

Warrior Priest (greatsword unit)
GW, Heavy Armour, Ironcurse Icon
77

Warrior Priest (knights)
GW, Heavy Armour, Barded Warhorse
88

Master Engineer
Light Armour
66

Core- 564

29 Swordsmen
Full Command
9 Crossbow Det
314

9 Inner Circle Knights
Standard, Musician, Gleaming Pennant
250

Special- 577

27 Greatswords
Full Command, Standard of Discipline
342

5 Outriders
Musician
115

Cannon

Rare- 490

Helblaster

Helstorm

Steam Tank

One of the things I'm unsure about is the knights. I could easily take a big unit of halberds or swords instead, I just like that some armies can't contend with the armour save. I'm going to play test the helstorm rocket but I think with a big army on the other side of the table its chances of success are pretty good, and it gives the engineer something to shoot with on turn when before the helblaster is in range. Thoughts?

So I've been tasked by my gf to write up a list. Her only specification was that she wants it to be very archer heavy, with a mage, and wanting to include Sisters of Averlorn.

So with these guidelines, I've thrown this up, and having only skimmed the book, I'd like to know if it's any good. It doesn't need to be competitive, it's purely for fun play against my semi-competitive Vamps.

Lords & Heroes:

Mage - Level 2, Armour of Silvered Steel - 165

Core:

13x Archers - Full Command, Light Armour - 173 (mage goes here)
14x Archers - Full Command, Light Armour - 184
8x Silver Helms - Full Command, Barding - 214

Special:

Lion Chariot - xxx (I'm so-so on including this...)

Rare:

10x Sisters of Averlorn - High Sister - 150

Total: 1006 pts

I don't mind the 6 pts over, since she'll only really be playing me.

Any opinions on this list would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hello LO'ers,

I've been away from the hobby since 2010 and my friend and I just bought the 6 ed. rulebook in an attempt to get back into the hobby. I was wondering if you guys would give me some advice on how the Wolves codex works in the "new" ruleset.

My Wolf force:

HQ:
Rune Priest
-Terminator Armor
-Storm Bolter

(possible) Wolf Priest
-Terminator Armor
-Storm Bolter
-Power Weapon

(possible) Wolf Guard Battle Leader/Wolf Lord
-Frost/power sword
-CCW

(possible) Wolf Guard Battle Leader/Wolf Lord
-Lightning Claws

4 Fenrisian Wolves (can be assigned to HQ in different amounts)

Elites:
3 Wolf Guard (two for GH packs and 1 for BC pack)
-2 power weapons, 1 power fist

Dreadnought
-Assault Cannon
-Power Claw

Troops:
23 Grey Hunters (usually split into two squads--the spillovers are either used as different unit types or not used at all)
-2 Meltas
-2 Plasma Pistols

8 Blood Claws
- 1 Plasma Pistol

Rhino Transport

Fast Attack
4 Bikers (or 3 Bikers with one Wolf Guard sergent)
-Power fist
-Meltagun
-Power weapon
-(sergent) Power fist

Heavy Support:
Leman Russ Exterminator (Counts as a Vindicator)

4 Long Fangs+Pack Leader
-2 Missile Launchers
-Heavy Bolter
-Lascannon

That's the extent of my force. Some notes: The HQ models and Wolf Guard sergeants are flexible and can occupy different slots on the FOC depending on how I want to organize the rest of the packs. For instance, Lightning Claws WGBL can become a sergeant for the Blood Claws, etc.

I've noticed from reading the 6th Ed. rules that shooting is a lot more important, so I'm planning on focusing on the Grey Hunters and using the Blood Claws as distractions, but I'm not sure. Any advice that can help me get back into the hobby effectively would be much appreciated!

Hi all,

Im finaly knuckling down and after deciding that im going for a cavalry themed list (having shot down the Calador, Chracian, Phoenix Guard/Phoenix possibilities). Now, i will be including a Griffon, but have still decide if its going to be a Noble BSB or Prince on top. The reason being is that im not sure how to take my mage in a cavalry list, and weather a lvl4 mounted will be safe enough/work as well as 1-2 level 2s, with maybe a cheap bsb if it can be afforded.

So the breakdown is how would you include both magic, and a griffon, in an all mounted army (no dragons)?
and on a side note, a bsb if necessary.

Im looking at going to somthing like 2500pts with the list eventualy, up from 1000pts, so low point games arent an issue as i can muddle through. However when i do get to the larger point games i would hope for workable characters.

I have also looked at the idea of a Lvl4, Noble BSB and Noble on Griffon, (points permiting and a lvl 1), but the question still arises, how to mount my sole magic user, keeping him safe but usefull. Theres Tchariots, horse, eagle, all with good points and bad.

hoping you could help flesh out the arguments for and against each, maybe aong with some items to kit him out with.

The army idea overall is looking like;

2-3 units SH
(maybe 1 Reavers)
2x 3 Tchariots
1-2 DP
2 Sky-cutter
1FSP

L4 mage
Griffon
lvl1/BSB

Thanks for any advice.

I was playing around in my bits boxes the other week when I found a Knight's torso amongst other Bretonnian bits (from quite a few years ago now).
So rather than work on my Ogres, I decided to convert up a Foot Knight. It's fairly easy really, Knight's torso, M@A command armoured legs, and that's the basics done, all that's needed is a head, arms/weapon and shield. Since I was in a bit of a creative mood I decided to see about a build for the guy. Unsatisfied with what I could come up with I made the choice to design my own Special Character.
After some consultation with Captain Sarathai on point costs and rules legitimacy, this is what I've got.

Boras Jerain of Gisereux
Boras Jerain of Gisoreux was born the third son of a very minor noble family, with little influence in the royal courts. A mere four generations has passed since Boras' great grandsire earned his knighthood and returned from King Charlen's Errantry War of the Border Princes, and granted lordship over an ancient fort in the shadow of the southernmost reaches of the Forest of Arden. Growing up a trebuchet's throw from the forest's edge, Boras and his brothers knew the dangers of the world well before they came of age, and learned the ways of war amongst it's verdant branches.
With few knights in residence and an excess of peasants to work the land and keep the forest at bay, the Jerain family depends largely upon these commoners to patrol and guard their demense.
It was beneath the towering columns of the forest that he learned the madness that is pitched battle, hunting down the small bands of foul beasts that frequently threaten his family's holdings.Although a great number of knights would find it abhorent, Boras is as comfortable fighting on foot as he is astride his charger, and has lead men-at-arms against the enemy like so. Although trained in the use of all knightly weapons, Boras has demonstrated a clear affinity for the axe, able to split a beastman from collarbone to kidney with one blow.
Knight's Vow
Hand Weapon
Heavy Armour
Shield
The Splitter - Magic Weapon. Armour Piercing. In Close Combat, Boras Jerain may re-roll any dice rolls of 1 To Wound.
Staghorn Helm - +1 Armour Save. One use only; Counts as stubborn for the current combat, regardless of the number of game turns it lasts.
Virtue of Benevolence - Boras Jerain is fielded on foot. Peasants within 12" may use his Leadership, rather than normal 6" and may re-roll their first failed Leadership test.
Boras Jerain may be mounted on a Barded Bretonnian Warhorse for no additional cost, however he loses the Virtue of Benevolence and he may only join a unit of Knights Errant, which will automatically pass their first Impetuous roll.
Total Cost: 140
Boras Jerain may not be upgraded to the Battle Standard Bearer, but may be the Army General.

I was playing around with my bits boxes, assembling yet another "for the hell of it" Chaos Warrior/Knight hybrid. When I had him put together my brain switched on and started wondering about his build. A quick foray into Army Builder had him sporting MoN, Charmed Shield, Biting Blade, PoSpeed and ToEnd. But something about him had me looking at him a bit more. With a billowing cloak, a nasty looking axe, and a look of obstinate determination on his somewhat altered/diseased face I thought I saw a hint of Wulfrik in him - either that or an evil Lord Solar Macharius (I did actually build him an alternative staff weapon to suit that concept).
Alternate "Lord Silas Machiavelli"
Anyway, that's getting a little off topic.
With a custom built "Wulfrik" I would theoretically want a list to put him in.
This is that list. It's fast - nothing under M6 (except Wulfrik and his marauders who don't need the speed), compact - only 59 models (half of them marauders), but brutal - no single unit is going to go down easily. In theory anyway.

Warriors of Chaos Roster - Throgg Wulfrik Madness 1500

The Troll King Throgg

Wulfrik the Wanderer

5 Chaos Trolls @ 190.0 pts
Extra Hand Weapon

24 Chaos Marauders of Nurgle @ 260.0 pts
Musician; Standard Bearer; Light Armour; Shield

5 Marauder Horsemen of Slaanesh @ 95.0 pts
Musician; Javelin; Shield

12 Forsaken of Slaanesh
Swiftstride

6 Chaos Warhounds @ 48.0 pts
Vanguard

6 Chaos Ogres of Nurgle @ 280.0 pts
Musician; Great Weapon

Total Roster Cost: 1500.0

Heroes: 25.0%
Core: 56.3%
Special: 18.7%

If you have trolls, you need Throgg, so he ended up the general leading the Trolls and NurOgres get across the field, as you wait for Wulfrik and his boys to show up in the backfield.
I do realise that it's not the most points efficient list there is; the Forsaken aren't particularly cost effective, neither is Wulfrik; but it should prove fairly tough, even without magic to support it.
