So I recently drew this list up out of a desire to keep a promise to myself that I would at least look at bike squads for 2000, rather than just run an SW list I built that I'm fairly happy with.

The two biggest things I love about SW is their Long Fangs and Grey Hunters, while the two biggest things I hate about vanilla are tactical squads and the lack of heavy fire support since Devastators are so expensive.

One thing that vanilla has that SW doesn't, and its one of the two reasons I haven't gone full SW is the ability to make scoring bike armies (Sternguard armies is the other reason).

Anyways, I was trying to find a way to get some heavy fire support that doesn't require a bunch of expensive tanks (predators, land raiders) which only dish out a couple of shots at one target per turn (predators are the worst offender of this), while at the same time trying to get a scoring bike army, AND enough back mobility to handle the Russ rush should it ever happen (a tall order, I know)

This is what I came up with:
(Quick note: the people I play with are usually cool with Forgeworld models, so I included them in the list. they are labeled as such.)

Bike Captain: 185 points, Artificer Armor, Space Marine Bike, Melta Bombs, Relic Blade
SM Bike Squad: 245 points, 5 bikes+ 1 Attack Bike (MM), 2 meltaguns, powerfist, meltabombs
SM Bike Squad: 245 points, 5 bikes+ 1 Attack Bike (MM), 2 meltaguns, powerfist, meltabombs
SM Bike Squad: 230 points, 5 bikes + 1 AB (HB), 2 plasma guns, power weapon, meltabombs
Landspeeder: 90 points, Typhoon ML, HB
Landspeeder: 90 points, Typhoon ML, HB
Landspeeder: 60 points, 2 HBs
Deathstorm DP: 75 points (FORGEWORLD MODEL)
Seige Dreadnaught: 120 points (FORGEWORLD MODEL)
Drop Pod: 55 points, Deathwind launcher
Devastator Squad: 250 points, 10 men, 4 missile launchers, power weapon + melta bombs (they will combat squad into 2-2 ML teams)
Devastator Squad: 315 points, 10 men, 2 Plasma cannons, 2 Multi-meltas, power weapon, melta bombs, rhino (split off, plasma team stays home, MM team gets the rhino)
Razorback: 40 points (goes with devastator squad technically, but acts more as mobile cover/ fire support)

So what does everyone think? The basic idea is that the list can take all comers, and taking a page out of my 1500 SW list with a lot of heavy firepower.

Just finished "pointing out" my 1750 pts. friendly MotF List, and got some time to kill before the battle. Thought Ill post my army, and hope for a few comments.

The thought behind this list is dreadnoughts. I really like the look of em, and they do quite well I think.

In most of my other lists Ill include an ironclad in a drop pod - the last time he took out a soul grinder with his melta, charged a great unclean one (who was down to two wounds), and when he had finished the greater deamon, he was charged by a deamonprince. He lost both his arms and mobility, but managed to kill the prince anyways.

Ill stress that the list is build around the dreadnought team, and is NOT meant for competetive play. My opponent is playing eldar or orks...

Back to the list.

Master of the Forge

Servitor Unit of 3 servitors

Las-Raider

Ironclad Dreadnought in Drop pod

Four Dreadnoughts
-Two with multi-meltas
-Two with assault cannons

Two full Tactical Squads in Rhinos
-One with meltagun, multi-melta and powerweapon
-One with flamer and missile launcher - sergeant has melta-bombs

One Attack Bike Squadron
-of two attack bikes
-both with multi-meltas

One full Assault Marine Squad
-sergeant with powerfist

Roles and Strategy
The HQ - MotF w/ Servitors, will be riding the Las-Raider, until something needs fixing OR enemies gets close enough for a power-fist beating. Will generally hold back and attempt to stop light vehicles, with priority on fast vehicles and transports.

The Ironclad will choose the most secure drop location, as long as there is something to pound. If the enemy does not deploy - it will aim for the centre of the opposing deployment zone.

The other dreads will team up two-and-two, with one team pressing forward, and the other in defence/reaction. Against a defensive enemy, they will all move forward.

In cover of the dreads, the two tacticals will move forward to secure ground. Their primary concern in a mission involving objectives is to stay alive. With many objhectives, I will split the squad that has the missile launcher.
Maybe ill split the other squad as well, and let the melee part of it, hog the land raider. In that case they may take over the land raider, and turn it into a mobile, heavely armoured scoring unit.

The attack bikes a expendable, but will try not to allow ST 8+ fire on them. They will take first chance to take out any vehicle, with preference to heavy vehicles.

The jump marines will be my main offensive weapon. They might try to join up with the ironclad, but will also have an eye on the opponents scoring units. They will deploy out of LoS, maybe using the Las-Raider as cover.

Thoughts: 1750 pts with only two scoring units is going to be hard. If the opponent focus on taking them out, the battle may well be lost quickly. Thats why I have to use the dreads to clear the ground for the troops, and maybe lock strong melee units in prolonged combat.
The force is rather short ranged, and also lacks a bit of mobility. Against a mobile opponent, the first few rounds of Godhammer Pattern Lascannon fire from the Raider, may prove vital.

With the light armour of the dreads, the MotF is vital to keep the force moving forward. Ill keep in mind that the most repairs he has made during any six-round battle is three, and that was in a 12k apoc battle with 6 LR, 3 dreads and 3 vindicators in close proximity.

Ill hope that you will drop some comments on the list and/or tactics, or your own experience with dreads, few troops and repairs.

I need help selecting 2 of the 3 lists below, and maybe some tweeks to individual lists. I will have a chance to playtest some tomorrow night. Model limitation, I only have enough for the 3 units of GH below , 2 full BC, two 10 man WG termies, 1 ten man WG power armor, and two predators if I do not use rhinos. Guess I could add that I have (with my son's models) 4 LRC, 1 more vindicator, and another predator. Also, no TWC (not buying multiple Canis, nor do I like GW alternatives).

The Long Fangs below are all I have, though its a friendly tourney using WYSIWYG, but painting optional, so I have ML to sub in. I like Vennie dreads, but their extra points at 1500 game may not be worth it.
The idea is to create a first wave with the wolves or to outflank or something else on other occasions. They cannot negate it and that gives me more time to get my powerarmored troops in possition. Saga of the wolfskin gives them ld7 and I 5. They are cheap and verry usefull in a footslogger list. My lord can join them and that will give him 15 extra wounds. Wolf guard will join the greyhunter and bloodclaws squad. Rune priest will join a squad to and he his with living lightning a walking autocannon. The lone wolf is his points worth, I tried it for 2 times now and they rock hard. Good against IC or deamons and even tanks will be a easy walk over, there are so manny treats that the lone wolf will be no treat for my enemy in the first 2 turns. Long fangs will give fire support where needed with the lascannons and missile launcher for anti tank and the Hbolter and plasmac for troops.

I tested this against Imperial guard yet with succes.
Scoring: 3
Models: 58

Edit: As I accidently said 2Kpts and not 1750pts here's what I would add for 2Kpts:

Dread Heavy Arms: Assault Cannon, Heavy Flamer: 115pts

+2 Wolf Guard: 1x TDA, Assault Cannon, 1x TDA, PF, CML: 136pts (The CML goes with Predaking and the Assault Cannon goes with Hitoshura)

New Total: 2000pts
KP: 12
Scoring: 3
Models: 61

The drop pod is in there mostly because I can only guarantee 2 rhinos at the moment (I'm trading some Epic Nids for a Razorback and a Wolf Pack, and then I'm getting a Battleforce). I'm considering buying another razorback to use as a rhino and just removing the drop pod (as I can get the razorback at 25% off this week).

Pretty much its an in your face type of army. Packs GaoGaiGar and SandRock should get into the opponents faces and kill things while packs Aleph and Seraph should focus on taking the middile and opponent's objectives. Pack Hitoshura will likely be kept in reserve and be brought out to take my own objective later on in the game so they don't really need a transport. Pack Predaking will be laying down long range support and will hopefully be able to deal with enemy light vehicles while my other guys get up into the enemy's face. Heavy Metal will join Pack Sandrock to add to its already formidable firepower.

Any recommendations? I know its a bit light on the anti-tank, but I only have 2 meltaguns. I'm hoping that I could get some multi-charges on and use the thunder hammers and power fists to take out some vehicles. Most armies where I play seem to be more on the casual side and I've only had to face a single mech army so far.

So, what do you guys think?

Also, +rep to anyone who can figure out my naming conventions for each FOC slot. As I don't have any fast attack choices up there, I'll give an example of what I would name a Thunder Wolf Cavalry pack: Cerberus. I'll be very surprised if anyone gets the troop one as I don't believe the game series is that well known. Note that transports have their own naming convention.

Edit: Bah... I meant 1750pt list, not 2Kps.

Some possible Options that I have thought of (you guys can add some more if you want):
Giving packs Aleph and Seraph flamer+meltagun and saving 15pts that can be used to give Heavy Metal some meltabombs and add another power weapon into Pack SandRock.

The aforementioned drop pod for rhino switch.

I'm starting a Space Wolves army, and due to my lack of prior experience creating 40k/successful Fantasy lists, I thought that I would put it here in order to receive constructive advice from more experienced players. Anyway...

The list:

HQ:
Battle Leader Loki Thunderfist (Yes, I name my guys.) 155
power armor, 2 wolf claws, grenades, wolftooth necklace, saga of warrior born

Njal Stormcaller in Runic Terminator Armor 270

Troops:
10 Grey Hunters 265
10 power armor, 8 bolter + 2 plasma, 9 bolt pistol + plasma pistol, 9 C.C. weapon + power weapon, 10 grenades, wolf standard, mark of wulfen, Rhino w/ Dozer blade + additional storm bolter

15 Blood Claws 265
15 power armor, 12 bolt pistol + flamer + melta + plasma pistol, 14 C.C. weapon + power fist, 15 grenades

Elite:
10 Wolf Scouts 270
10 scout armor, 2 bolter + 5 snipers + 2 power weapon + missile launcher, 8 C.C. weapon + 2 bolter, 10 grenades, 10 melta bomb, mark of the wulfen

Dreadnought 140
Multi-melta, Dreadnought C.C. weapon w/ storm bolter, smoke launchers, searchlight, Drop Pod

Heavy Support:
Vindicator 135
Demolisher cannon, 2 storm bolter, smoke launchers, searchlight, siege shield

My plan with this force is to divide it into groups. On one flank I will have the vindicator blast any infantry or tank on that side of the field, and on the other side I will have the Rhino followed by the Battle Leader. The Grey Hunters will disembark at about 12" away and rapid fire with plasma guns and bolters. The Leader will boost their combat prowess by re-rolling to wound and getting extra attacks. The Dreadnought will deep strike in right behind enemy lines, and due to the Drop Pod's Inertial guidance system, will almost be guerenteed to remain in place if there are alot of enemies near the drop zone. The 'Claws will charge the strong point of the enemy force, and Njal will hang out nearby them and kill anything that gets close. In addition, the Scouts will infiltrate into cover and use their variety of heavy weapons to slaughter multi-wound models, and pretty much anything else in range. If they do get charged, their power weapons will help increase combat prowess.
I do have a couple of tricks on this list. For example, in the Claws unit, I purchased the flamer "first", and the melta in addition, so I save 5 points. Yay, loopholes!

Tactics wise the two scouts squads camp on objectives and the two dreadnoughts drop down turn one to threaten tanks and pressure the opponent into ignoring the two rhinos with the assault and tactical squads. I use the dreads and attack bikes to pop armour while the thunderfire can decimate troops once they are out of the vehicles.

The librarian with the sternguard warpgate around within 12" of the drop pods, as not to scatter, and lay down fire support. This army has 4 scoring units (5 if i choose to combat squad the tactical squad).

I know a lot of people are not fans of the assault squads in rhinos, but with kantors inspirational aura granting all units within 12" +1 attack these guys have a healthy 3 attacks a piece (4 on the charge).

As some of you may know I am quite young and wouldn't normally do gt(this being my first year in the hobby) but I spent sunday evening playing one of oxfords staff members (who finished second at gt) and I managed to pull of a win:victory:.

Anyway, he asked if I wanted to travel with him to gt and play in his team and I, of course, said yes. One thing he did not approve of however was how I built my list. I realised I will have to get a whole army adapted for next years gt. Now being young this takes alot of time(damn you employed people!). I do, however, have a birthday and odviously christmas coming up so I descided to try and buy the list through asking for it as presents.

I'm gunna need all the help I can get so any experienced tournement players could you please help me! Anyway, he used to run a gunline wolf army so I thought if adapted my current army I could borrow some of his experience and, in tandom with the new book, I might be able to pull of a win(only 1 thats all I ask!!!)
Here it is.

Rune Priest,terminator armour,melta- bombs=125
(10 Grey Hunters, 2 plasma-guns,mark of the wulfen)x2=350
5 grey hunters,flamer=75 (inside land raider)
