Chainswords flew and limbs coloured the ground green as the space marines pressed home their advantage from a surprise attack to a full fledged assault.

“Brother Lorgar behind you!” Shouted a grizzled veteran as an Ork tried to bury his axe in the head of Lorgar. The space marine turned around just in time to parry the Ork’s axe before using his spare hand to punch holes into the green slim with the tip of his bolt pistol as he emptied shot after shot into the green scum. Confusion was everywhere as the marines cut through the tide of green like a knife through butter and soon enough the Orks began to take hold of the situation and rush back into the fight, with the enthusiasm that only Orks could wield. Plus a few knocks on the head here and there.

The situation was getting out of hand, as more and more Orks poured in, Lorgar knew and if something was not done soon. Their surprise attack would turn into a disaster and he could not let his brothers die so easily, he must find their leader and he must kill their leader. Simple as it sounds; but nothing was ever easy for a marine. “Brother Vail, with me!” Shouting towards the grizzled veteran as he plunged right into the thick of the horde. The veteran spun his chainsword and parried his opponent's overhead strike, before finished up with uppercut with the chainsword causing untold mess as green flashed everywhere blinding the sergeant for mere seconds. Wiping away the filth, he charged with his brother into the fray without doubt and without mercy.

A few hundred of metres away, the marines fought with renewed eagerness as their commander entered the fray, while Captain Lucius and his honour guard spat death into the Orks. A sudden roar was heard not a few hundred metres ahead of them, knowing this to be the leader of the attack, they moved on as flamer squads flanked their enemies and cleared the way. Whatever caused the roar had arisen, 11 foot into the air, as a muscular giant clad in metal and bones forged its way through the Orks and towards Lucius. Its hand gripped on a familiar object, which was Brother Lorgar's open mouthed head, “Brother Lorgar, you will be avenged!” Spoke Captain Lucius, but before his rage had time to accumulate. A figure burst from the Ork lines, while being restrained by several large Orks, “Brother Captain! I have failed you, forgive me!” Spoke the disorientated Vail as he struggled to break free from the Orkish grasp.

The warboss however saw the dismay in the marines faces, with glee, as they saw one of their own so helpless; so defenceless, but held high their heads as their brother continued to fight. “Ya see now? Dis iz wert appenz when youz mess wiv de Orks, an diz is wert appenz when u fight da Orks!” Shouted the warboss gleefully as he took the body of Vail in his metallic grasp and ripped apart the marines body with claw and hand in front of the marines. Even the Orks stopped their fighting to marvel as the leader destroyed his opponent and showered his enemy with gore. “Waaaaagh!” Shouted the Orks, their anger reaching it’s peak once more. “For the emperor!” Screamed the marines.

The warboss laughed with a hideous grin, “U beaky boyz are gonna die ere tonight an ur head will be on me pointy stick ere, datz an honour dat iz!” Claimed the Ork. Silenced stood within the marine lines, as they knew discipline all too well.

The Orks as impatient as always reflected the mood of their warboss, “Well! What do u say do dat?” Shouted the warboss as his views of the emperor’s finest began to deteriorate. “To hell with you and your kind and for the emperor, charge!” Shouted the Captain as his marines charged and his command squad came forth. A grin like never before appeared on Warboss Bigboss’s as he and his rabble bellowed their warcry and charged with renewed enthusiam.

However, as Captain Adonis Lucius and his command squad brought up their weapons to bear, the warboss’s grin broke into an horror stricken face as he was torn apart by a flurry of plasma bolts that reduced his mass to nothing more than a heap of glowing goo.

"Brothers target the nobz, demorilize them and destroy them!" Barked the Captain, as their holy wrath could only be forstalled for too long and within half a minute the warbosses retinue were reduced as well ,like their leader, to what could be best described in the old days as radioactive mushy peas, this humoured many sick factory workers but for those who unfortunately met their fate while eating fish and chips. It became untolerable pain for all they knew.

I know that some orks are born with certain skills, and what I was wondering if there would be a chance that for whatever reason a cult had no naturally skilled orks? Also what could be the reason for this?

So, before you start drolling on the keyboard, let me shoot your hopes down, to my knowledge there is no real feature film in the works for the Horus Heresy books (as a side note, there is a 40K underway, you can see my blog for details if you like). Now, what I do want your help with, is to fictionally cast the first Horus Heresy book, "Horus Rising" by Dan Abnett (and in a way, the rest of the trilogy)- if money and availability was no obstacle, who would YOU want to play the parts?

To keep things organized, I thought we could discuss just a couple of characters first, perhaps come to a conclusion/vote and then move on to some others, so we don't have rampant thread hysteria (assuming anyone actually participates in this little experiment. So, when you post, it would be helpful if when you suggest someone, to include a picture, a name, and a list of well known movies (if you can) so that others can reference them and know who you're talking about. Also, let's keep from any cross-Atlantic debates about who's actors are better, etc. (That's lame and counter-productive)

And, if we can all come to conclusions to get one actor/actress for each part (or maybe two) I can keep track of them here in this main post. Once we start casting, I'll start working on a long list of all the stuff we need to cast (important parts anyway).

So, I thought we'd start with one important part, and one not so much and hopefully try to maintain that pattern. So, let's here your ideas for the beloved Garviel Loken and for Lucius of the Emperor's Children.

When visiting this idea over the past few months, I often imagine Mr. Clive Own as Loken

Some of his past big name credits include - (from most recent) Duplicity, The International, Shoot Em Up, Children of Men, Inside Man, Sin City, King Arthur, Bourne Identity

Admittedly, I've not seen a whole lot of his movies, but, he has a face/common persona that seems to resonate a seriousness and focus I imagine Loken to have. He's been in lots of action movies, so it's easy to see him kicking butt, etc. I think he'd be a good choice. What about you fellas?

Lucius was a bit tougher, and I'm still not sure, I think that many of you will probably come up with better candidates, but for the sake of participation I considered Mr. Edward Norton

I can't really pinpoint why I chose him, I just get a weird vibe from him, like he could be really freaky if he tried, which is what Lucius is all about. Some of his past credits include The Incredible Hulk, The Illusionist, Fight Club, Kingdom of Heaven, The Italian Job, and Death to Smoochy.

Anyway, what about you people out there? Surely you've thought about a movie for the books, now's your chance to voice your opinion! It won't affect the material universe, but you can voice it!

I have always loved the witch hunters, and after reading the codex, it occurred to me that the army list is incredibly diverse- almost too diverse to fit into a single army. On the one hand, you have the sisters- the living embodiment of sanctified purity, and on the other hand, you have the arcoflagellants, penitent engines and sisters repentia, all of whom are sinners, fallen from the Emperor's grace. The solution, for me was to create two armies instead of one. In times of great peril, of course, both armies work together, but just as often, one or the other will be sufficient for the task at hand. Here then is their story.

Escutcheon III is a world whose significance has faded into obscure Imperial history in the centuries following the martyrdom of the great Saint Katherine. In the early days of the crusades which followed Goge Vandire's reign of terror, the planet was amongst the greatest of the shrine worlds, for it was on Escutcheon III that Katherine's Sainthood was bestowed upon her. The great Chapel of Katherine's Aegis was built to celebrate her apotheosis- Katherine had been the sheild bearer for Dominica, the first of the living saints of the adepta sororitas, and thus the Echlisiarchy had seen fit to name her chapel Aegis to comemorate the shield she had borne so faithfully to battle at her lady's side.

Thousands of Imperial pilgrims gathered at the Chapel of Saint Katherine's Aegis to see its patron crowned in the wreath of Fleurs de Lys that signified her sainthood. Even after Saint Katherine herself was called away to continue her service in the crusades, the pilgrims continued to come in such great numbers that a perceptory of the Order of the Fiery Heart was established to safeguard the chapel and to keep the Emperor's peace as the population of the planet swelled.

So great were the responsibilities of the living saints of the adepta sororitas that it is believed that Katherine herself visited the chapel only once after the ceremony in her honour. When Dominica fell in battle, first and holiest of the Emperor's martyred daughters, few of the sororitas at her side escaped a similar fate. It was Saint Katherine who broke the enemy battle line and secured for her sisters their retreat, but she herself did not follow. Instead, she returned to her lady's side, to lay claim to the sacred arms she had borne to battle a thousand times.

In the aftermath of that terrible battle, Dominica's sacred sword was recovered and taken home as a holy relic to the Convent Sanctorum on Ophelia VII. The shield, however, was never recovered. Though Imperial records are vague, there is evidence to suggest that it was borne once more by Saint Katherine to rest somewhere beneath the chapel to which it had given its name.

Shortly thereafter, Katherine herself was martyred at the hands of the witch cult of Mnestteus, and the Fiery Heart became the Order of Our Martyred Lady. And as the years turned to decades, any memories of the shield beneath the chapel faded, and the number of sisters left behind to safeguard the chapel dwindled as more and more duties passed to the priests of the ecclesiarchy. As the decades became centuries, scarcely a commandery of sisters remained.

So too had the offspring of the pilgrims turned away from the Emperor's light. Not all became heretics and criminals, of course, but the days of universal faith had faded as Saint Katherine's Aegis fell into neglect. In M39, Imperial decree established the Adeptus Arbites Precinct Fortress 17 to assist with the governance of Escutcheon III. Where the small commandery of sisters found themselves unable to maintain order, the Adeptus Arbites brought law to the lawless. Under the guidance of the ecclesiarchy, many of these criminals where given an opportunity to earn their repentance as arcoflegellants and even the mighty penitent engines.

Finally, in the later years of M41, a group of sisters became exposed to the infernal powers during a prolonged investigation of cult activity. While the Inquisitors of the Ordo Hereticus could find no overt taint of heresy upon them, it was deemed that they should be separated from their sisters to walk the path of the repentia, lest their knowledge of the infernal come to taint the chapel which bore their patron's name. And so the sisters repentia came to be confined within the cold walls of Precinct Fortress 17, and the penitent legion of the Adeptus Arbites was at last complete.

And there you have it. I'd like to thank all the people who played the games that brought this history to life; this document was not merely written, it was fought in dozens of battles in every scale from kill team to 40K to Apocalypse and even Battlefleet Gothic. Both the Penitent Legion of Precinct 17 and the Commandery of St. Katherine's Aegis will continue to battle in the Emperor's name and bring cleansing fire to the witch, the heretic and the mutant, where ever he may hide.

This is the, at the moment, final draft of my chapter's history. I'd like to have some more experienced people run through it and point out any fluff holes I missed. I know the format is kind of annoying, but it points out the important points without me writing a novel.

=The Chapter was founded in the 26th Founding 738. M41, where it served the Imperium as a loyal chapter for nearly 300 years. In which, The Chapter had suffered many victories and losses. The greatest of these is the destruction of their homeworld during the Second Tyrannic War
=On the turn of the millennium, however, The Chapter found something buried far below ground on a planet that wasn’t supposed to exist.
=The planet looked to be dead. It was covered in the ruins of once great pre-imperial cities. As The Chapter approached in their considerable fleet, they started scanning the world. It appeared that the world had a rather large cavern under its crust that housed what appeared to be a huge plasma generator. Deploying 3 Scout Squads, The Chapter investigated the strange planet. Deep inside the cavern, the scouts found that there was a considerable light source already there. Green light.
=Running from the undying xenos machines, only one of The Chapter’s scouts sent to investigate survived. Brother Lazarus was the only Marine that exited from a ruined hab complex, surrounded by many xenos corpses with precisely placed sniper rounds in their skulls and a pile of fellow marines. Brother Lazarus brought back something with him however…
=Walking down the ramp from the Thunderhawk, Brother Lazarus carried a strange glowing object that bore a resemblance to a rifle. Handing that off to a techmarine, Lazarus collapsed into the arms of an apothecary.
=Techmarine Tybalt was amazed by what he saw on the workstation before him. He knew many secrets of the Omnissiah, but this device confounded every scientific principle and law he had seen. Tybalt found no obvious joint in the casing of the device, so he ignited the power knife on the workstation and used it to cut through the casing. He peered into the interior, green light illuminating his face. He voxed for a Chaplain, then he sounded a ship-wide Moral Threat.
=When the supposed ‘specialist’ inquisitor from the Ordo Xenos arrived to examine the artifact discovered by The Chapter, he brought what looked suspiciously like a war fleet with him. He was accompanied by a containment team to the Space Marine ship. When he left with the specimen, he sent an order to the Admiral of his fleet that the Admiral had dreaded since he had been assigned to serve the Inquisitor.
=The Chapter’s Master of the Fleet, Captain Attelus, thought that it was very suspicious that the Inquisitor’s flagship’s primary weapons battery was charging. Being fairly experienced in naval warfare, Attelus ordered The Chapter Fleet to full battlestations. Seeing that the only real option that would solve this predicament was a bold one, Attelus sent the orders to get a firing solution.
=As the Ferrus Ignace broadsided the Inquisitor’s flagship, the Inquisitor got one last smile, knowing that the Ferrus was far too close for such an action.
=Leading with The Chapter’s 3 remaining Battle Barges, Captain Attelus drove The Chapter’s fleet through the ashes of the Inquisitor’s flagship and the Ferrus Ignace, since ashes were all that were left when the Inquisitor’s flagship’s reactors went critical. The remaining ships in the Inquisitor’s fleet were far too busy trying to regain a semblance of order and dodging incoming plasma bursts and torpedoes to intercept the escaping Space Marine fleet. The Chapter Fleet made a blind warp jump; a remarkably stupid act, but one that was necessary considering the situation.
=When The Chapter emerged from the bowels of the warp, they were in completely foreign territory, near the Tau homeland, a full 200 years in the future.
=The Rogue Trader, Lupus Locke thought himself the luckiest man in the galaxy. He had been enjoying a glass of vintage amasec on his ship’s observation deck when he saw the tendrils of the warp rip into realspace, just outside his view port. When he saw what came out, he nearly soiled his luxurious clothing.
=After holding a meeting with the remaining Officer Corps, Chapter Master Caius Callidon decided that it was in The Chapter’s best interest if they established contact with the well armed warship sitting on their doorstep and attempted to ally with what Imperial records identified as the flagship of Rogue Trader, Lupus Locke.
=The Chapter, on the advice of Locke, took shelter in a nearby asteroid belt, cutting all power from the engines and weapons and diverting it all to their shields. Deploying all their Thunderhawks with minimal crew, they filled each and every one up to the brim with the Rogue Trader’s supplies, preparing for what would soon be hard times.
=The Chapter was now fully, if not over-, stocked. They sent a Thunderhawk containing the Chapter Master, 3 Captains, Brother Lazarus, Techmarine Tybalt, and a Terminator squad on diplomatic escort duty to the Rogue Trader’s ship. The Space Marines’ were on hair trigger as they proceeded towards Locke’s personal quarters, escorted by a rather frightened crewman. The Rogue Trader welcomed them into his quarters with open arms and invited them to sit (no doubt hoping they wouldn’t, as the antique Tahlwood chairs wouldn’t take well to a Marine’s weight). Attempting to engage in small talk, Locke soon realized that Marine’s were not creatures of the court, but beings of action. Therefore, he moved on and inquired of The Chapter’s name and what would bring them to his humble ship.
=When Callidon was finished relating a summary of The Chapter’s history and their current predicament, Locke sat back in his chair, thinking. “I have a proposal for you,” said Locke “One that is mutually beneficial. I propose that you,” gesturing to indicate the Marines standing in his presence “join my somewhat considerable armed force, acting as elite strike teams and my personal bodyguards,” pausing for effect, “In return, I give a chapter forsaken by the Imperium at large not only a mission, but access to all the supplies that you’ll ever need and an elite force, by Imperium standards, of my personal forces which to draw recruits from.”
=The Chapter struck the deal with Locke. Realizing that an entire chapter of Space Marines and their fleet would not be very easy to conceal, they loaded up the Thunderhawks yet again. This time, they loaded their supplies onto their Fortress-Monastery and one of the biggest spaceworthy craft ever built by the Imperium, the Ramilies Class Star Fort, Depereo Plagiarius. Heavily modified to suit the chapter, the Depereo has had its launch bays modified to support Thunderhawks instead of regular Imperial Fighters and its torpedo tubes modified to fire Space Marine Drop Pods. It has even, after winning the prize from a very wealthy Imperial Governor for protecting his Solar System and its lucrative trading operations from Eldar raiders, been fitted with an engine capable of maneuvering the hulk. The Chapter’s Master of the Fleet, Captain Attelus, was hardwired into the Star Fort many centuries ago, after receiving horrid wounds that would have confined him to a Dreadnought. Upon fully inhabiting the Depereo Plagiarius, The Chapter stripped the other ships as much as possible and the extra plasma reactors, weapons batteries, shield generators, engines, cogitators, and warp drives were retro-fitted to the Depereo Plagiarius. Their reasoning behind this was that, as conspicuous as a Star Fort is, a fleet of “Chaos” Space Marines would be even more conspicuous.
=The Chapter sent representatives to the Rogue Trader’s ship to monitor the forces of Locke’s army while they trained. Unbeknownst to the soldiers, they were looking for those who were young enough and talented enough to make Space Marines

Well it is essay time again, which means I am developing new and inventive ways to procrastinate. My latest idea is for some background fluff which would have no bearing on game mechanics. It involves the Tau creating a new way of faster than light travel. It is inspired by the books by Dan Weber, and the question of what would a galaxy be like in which there are multiple ways to travel through space. I have no read any novels which have this in them. Anyways enough rambling this is an initial piece of poorly written fluff containing some of my initial thoughts. (If only I could type essays this fast :( ).

Classification Level Vermilion
-
Ordo Xenos Report on Tau Technological Breakthrough
-
-
-
Strength In Unity Brothers
-
-
I write to you my brothers to tell you of disturbing information I have received through from the xenoTau Empire. Information has reached me of a new technology recently developed by these resourceful aliens. It appears that a new method of faster than light travel has been discovered by the scientists of this alien race. Initial rumours are not all in agreement but I will here attempt to decipher and collate the most persistent and plausible.
-
Within the last few of years an asteroid was discovered on the fringes of Tau controlled space which contained an previously unknown elements capable of massive energy release. This asteroid is the only known source of this element and my contacts on Mars report no previous knowledge of its existence. The Tau name is roughly translated as “the gate opener”, an apt name since it opens the way for a massive advancement in the Tau’s ability to expand their empire.
-
This element is the key to a newly invented engine that is capable of folding space time and allowing a starship to pass through a gate/wormhole and instantly appear in a spatially distant location. The size of engine necessary to generate the power required insures that this technology is only practical on a vessel the size of a typical escort class spaceship. This technology has a number of other limitations. In order for the gate to be opened the ship must be relatively free from all forms of gravitational influence, preventing a ship from travelling to or from a close proximity to a planet or store. Effectively creating a wall around solar bodies which must be crossed before a gate is opened. In addition the time required to generate the necessary power is considered to be equivalent to between 20-40 Terran hours. This prevents a ship from any sort of rapid jumping away from danger.
-
However these limitations are far outweighed by the potential benefits, especially for the Tau who have hitherto possessed only limited warp capabilities. Not only will this technology allow the Tau’s ability to contest imperial space, it will also open up whole new swathes of the galaxy which have been previously been unreachable due to the vagaries of warp travel. This would allow the Tau to exploit and expand to planets free from the ability of the Imperium to intervene. A most troubling situation indeed.
-
It is my earnest recommendation that immediate action be taken to either destroy utterly or else acquire the means to this new technology in order to continue to protect the Imperium of Man

Now onto the Fluff, this is kind of like a building stone in my chapters history that will lead on into another blood the chapter will receive later on and i just want to know what you guys think about it, and what i can do to improve it or if i should just scrap the idea completey. . .

well yeah here i go with it

During the war for Darloth V against a number of the fallen brothers of the Adeptus Astarte’s there full chapter was involved as well as two chapters of there loyal marine brethren. There 4th company with the 3rd and 6th companies of the Travelling Sons chapter accompanied by a small team of Inquisitors from the Ordo Hereticus were part of strike force with the goal of breaching there Traitorous brothers strong hold while the rest of the chapter’s created a diversion on a massive scale giving a window of opportunity for the Inquisitors and there retinue. Once they had gotten into the fort they found nothing there, but an ambush. There Brothers who they had thought with for months had turned on them blocking our brothers of the 4th chapter and the members of the Ordo Hereticus from leaving as they turned on not only our ground forces but the skies of the planet filled with giant flashes of light as the Travelling Sons Chapter had almost completely turned on the emperor and sided with chaos, the still loyal members were butchered on there ship by the traitorous heavens we had once called brothers. The battle on the skies was over quickly, although the Sons had the element of surprise the two still loyal chapters quickly destroyed there ships. The rest of the ground forces were also dealt with rather quickly, all but the 3rd and 6th companies that had trapped our brothers inside the hellish structure. The members of the 4th company and the Inquisitors thought there way out of the trap sacrificing there lives to radio in for a Thunder Hawk drop ship and defending the drop site until the team of Inquisitors were safely aboard and on there way. The sacrifice our brothers made for these men is in fact what will save us in the years to come. After the rest of the ground forces had finished there skirmishes the other companies were sent to the place our brothers of the 4th company fell. On there arrival they had found the Travelling Sons chapter and Deamonettes of Slanesh torturing our brothers unlucky enough to die, the screams are still now heard by those who witnessed this. After our 7 other companies butchered the remaining traitors. Many of our surviving brothers were shattered and broken and would not live long, this is where our dread naughts were found.

Well yeah thats it for now, let me know what you think
