soon, i will be starting a new arena, but i have the small problem of not being able to decide what to do. So,what is it you all want from my next arena? Any special formats, locations, or anything else you want to mention?
That's right, you get to influence the arena's fluff. Get posting.
Do you have a few things in mind to choose from? Here are a few different set-ups I've seen from other arenas.
1) Regular, 250 points
2) Slight increase or decrease in points
Of course, the more you stray from the formula, the more chances there are of build abuse, and the more time consuming it can be. Then again, it's alwas good to shake things up a bit sometimes.
If were you, I'd take whatever backstory you're brewing for your arena and figure out what system works best. If you do go for a non-conventional style, talk to someone who has done it in the past.
I am heading off to the Peace Corps. It is bery likely I will not be back. Good luck to all of you endeavors.
Most arenas attempting to stray from the formula have been derailed. Not that this will happen to you, but keeping it simple might help it get finished. All you have to do is think of a setting.

Doubles seems like a blast. Would be hard to control and balance though. And you probably wouldn't be able to allow us to select the team mates, unless it's fluffy, because I can't see things like HE and DE together, etc.
If you do it and oncorporate it into the fluff though, you could pair up heroes randomly, suggesting that they themselves do not know who they'll be fighting with.
My 2 cents,
Map-based is a lot of fun. As an AM, I loved the omniscience I had in the Arena of the Ninja, and from what I was told, taking part in them was a lot of fun too. They can be a bit of work, however, and they require a decent amount of activity from all involved.4) Map-Based
One idea I've tinkered with is a RPing arena, or something else interactive. Initially, I had complex plans for including henchmen, group combats, and character experience. If I have a ton of time one day, I might go back to it, but I s'pect it will end up being simpler than that.
A pit fight theme could be cool, maybe with a few obstacles and stuff, and things that a contestant could use in combat. Rules for disarming and wounding opponents could also work.
I'm all for doubles. It would be fun and would make for some interesting combinations. I think all we should ban is:
-Race combinations by game fluff i.e. No empire mixed with chaos no matter what story you can come up with
-Magic items duplicated between the pair for quite obvious reasons
-All current items banned
Other than this I would like to see us just jump right into it.
As a side note, I think we should start considering a way to effectively include magic casters into the arenas. It just adds some extra build possibilities rather than the same ones appearing every time.
