actually i very well can. its a bit of poor wording by games workshop but its legal.

hek, they even pointed it out in the FAQ

Q. May a master rune be inscribed on the standard of
a unit of Hammerers, Longbeards, or Ironbreakers?
A. Yes, there is no rule that restricts master runes to the
army battle standard.

haha, Games-workshop should better look at what they are writing. The way they are writing rules it just screams "find a loophole in this wording!"

At least I can safely use masterrunes of grungni on longbeard standards now.

That rule always confused everyone due to the section pointed out. But its actually a little fluff GW put in, but was as you say badly worded, so much so most players took it as an actual rule!
