Putting aside all the various complaints and over-analysis of the current books, which one do you like best? Use whatever basis you want--best written, best improvement, best new rules, whatever--just explain why you picked the one you did. I'm not curious why you think some book or another sucks, ruined the fluff, illegalized your army build, spoils the whole gameset, will assure the financial ruin of GW, or broke up your marriage. I'm just curious what book you like best and why. I'm going to include everything from OKs forward, not just post 7th ed.

I went for ogres. Something ne, something different, look very cool. They get a lot of stick for being not very good, but they do have awesome potential.

Wood Elves! They were my first Fantasy army so they will always have a special place in my dispaly case :party2: .. although they are a tad bit weaken with all the newer army books, but they still have their own ways around them!

Definitely the new vampire counts for me. While the wood elf book comes in a close second, the new vampire book is a huge improvement over the last one. Just about every unit has a purpose (I'm looking at you, bat swarms!) and multiple different army builds are possible and quite viable; a mark of a truly great book.

I think the Empire and the Orcs and Goblins are both fantastic books. You can make some really nasty armies with them, also they are very diverse in their troop choices, with lots of special, rare and core to choose from.

Wood Elves! They are one of the armies that truly bring all their character into the army. Also one of the few newer books that you see a variety of competitive builds. Honorable mention goes to the Ogre Kingdoms. Everything in that book is soooo original, from fluff to army list. |

There are so many different criteria you can use to base this judgment on that its almost impossible to really pick just one. In the end I had to go with my baby, the Daemons of Chaos. The fluff is only meh, but the synergy between different units (especially the Heroes and certain troop choices) is a fantastic new direction and mechanic. I've always thought that a 'Hero' was someone who would do more for their unit than just smack stuff around, instead they should have some sort of inspiring presence or aura that drives those under their comand to greater feats. I'm rather torn if I want to see this come out in other new books or if I want it to just remain a flavor of a the Daemon armies. Either way I have to tip my hat that GW did put some thought into it and in the end created something very new and fun. In all honesty though, if I could vote for two I would also vote for Wood Elves. That is an army that has a fantastic playstyle all of its own. It can be competitive, and more importantly the book and units completly capture the feel of how WE should play.

I voted OKs. Great book itself, cool figures, and they look like a good army to use. Plus, of course, they're very different to everyone else. -AFG// |
