Sorry, I was reading a summarised version which I had on my computer, it says:
"The bearer gains Initiative 10 in CC"
I assumed that was what the rulebook says as well, as everything else is worded the same way as in the BRB. I have since checked, and it turns out that you're right, so I guess I'll have to start using the sword of swift slaying, or the helm of many eyes. And I better point it out to the people who get me with it.

While on the subject of magic and FAQs does anyone know if the lore of heavens spell Harmonic convergence can be used on your unit of handhunners/crossbowmen ect and if used on all units can the missile and hand to hand units take advantage of it in the same turn or would it be more like - all hand to hand OR all missile troops get to hit with this spell.If you see what I mean.

For generic casters, slann. For named characters, Elspeth von Draken. Hard to imagine a named caster that she won't forcibly sodomize in a wizard duel.

that's interesting.. who is this Elspeth von draken? i have never faced it, nor do i have the armybook.

When it comes to special characters, comp-makers seem to dread Teclis. Does elspeth have something over that bastard?

She's a forgeworld character. Better than Teclis? Well...in terms of ruling the magic phase, no. But if the two of them met in a dark alley, she'd feed him his spellbook...through a straw, after they wire his jaw back together. Partly because she comes standard with an encarmine dragon. And that dragon puts all others to shame. WS5, S5, T6, W6, I5, A6, 2+ scaly skin. And a freaking MAGIC CANNONBALL (okay, S=10 minus the target's toughness-no armor save-, and it "only" does D3 wounds per model, but damn, a flying cannon! Take that, chaos knights!!!!) for a breath weapon! Elspeth herself gets KB and +1 to dispel, as well as the ability to reroll one die per turn or regain a wound. And she's Loremaster: death. Try this on for size: She's LD10 and can reroll the D6 for a spirit leech test...after seeing the opponent's result! Oh, you rolled a 2, and I only rolled a 3? One wound would be a pitiful outcome, let's reroll, I get a 1/3 chance of a worse result, and a 1/2 chance of a better one! Of course, on dragonback, she can get into your side arc and just pick which of the three sniping spells works best against a given victim... About the only thing she can't reroll is winds of magic...

under the old army book, I might have been tempted to vote empire...the rod of power was as awesome as the puppet...but that's gone now...
