If I had to choose 1 army to never collect I could happily avoid brettonia. They don't even have that warhammer fantasy feel to them nevermind looking... Meh. I also hate painting cav.

Other than that I would collect and play any other army, ogre kingdoms would come second most unappealing but I would still buy some. Some of their models are nice too

Id have to say Lizardmen, never been interested in them

Bretonnia arnt great either, even after reading a few of their novels I dont really like them

Daemons and Orges for me dont feel like full armies they should be parts of other armies like Chaos or Orcs(but saying that they are some of my fav models)

Wood Elves, beastmen and the undead armies are OK, nothing really great about them

Im sulking over Skaven coz I have a Vermin Lord and he isnt allowed to play

Love the rest of the armies though

Honestly, most unappealing to me is elves of any kind, nothing against their players and their fluff is alright i guess. I just would never collect them myself, something about the general feel of elves just, puts me off, i dunno. Bretonians are just really in need of a new armybook and really skaven have never really been appealing to me either.

thats just my take on the armies

I'm going to say Ogres .

I just don't like the "fat mongol" look they have .

Tomb kings, but simply because I didn't read the intro before posting. They are the most unappealing to me, but the models are fantastic. Simply cognitive dissonance. So I guess I effed up my vote.

For models I'd hate to personally collect and daub (not that it matters now) I'd have to say Brets, I'd hate to paint them suckers up, I'd rather have bowel surgery.

For me its Bretts (despite having a small army (that i might add was bought around thier release and from the Bret/lizardman starter box)). But its not surprizing considering how little love the army has recieved since its release. It does have some nice looking and interresting models, even the archers and men at arms look good for cheap core units. But the meat of the army which makes you want them, the shiney units, and characters, all look awful. The release of one polastic Lord/BSB box like the Empire varient would have done so much for the army but as it stands the character choice on all levels are bland.

With the exception of Peg knights theres nothing too imagenative in the book either which makes you stand up and say you want to do an army because of one particular unit.

Generaly the Bret book is an out and out flop, in no small part due to the lack of effort afforded them in the last 10 years by GW.

I would have to say for me it has to be Wood smurfs on an army front, in fact any of the smurf armies - Blackheart, I hear ya!, and daemons on a miniatures front. that's not to say the DoC minis are terrible but, I think, and it is my own opinion here, that the Khorne stuff is the best of the lot. Forgeworld have shown what can be done with daemons and their bloodthirster makes the GW one look like a bad fancy dress shop outfit on a gorilla. It's difficult though translating some of the tzeentch themes into solid reality.

however that said, it doesn't stop me from collecting Khorne daemons till I'm blue in the face, I didn't like the marathon runner bloodletters at first, but now they've really grown on me.

I like the ogre army, and I think that GW made a right move with bringing it out, it's visually impressive and the models are big and chunky - in many ways its one of those ideal starter routes into the hobby type armies, which grabs you visually and doesn't cost a lot to build a reasonable point value (say 1 to 2k) with relatively little model investment.

As Saltrock has said, bretts unfortunately have been let down by GW. I see them really as council estate (trailer trash to you US fellows) empire at the moment, and its sad as I really like them, I think there's still a place in Warhammer for the quintessential medieval army. The one thing if I have to be critical, and it's again my own personal thought on the matter is that the blend between norman conquest and arthurian legend just doesn't really work for me. Perhaps though without a major fluff re-write this is now too irreversible to repair. It s a pity as I've always had a real soft spot for them and despite everything I'd probably still collect them once I've got my chaos host sorted. Agincourt here we come!

I have seen a lot of Bret hate through this thread and I don't get it. A King Arthur style army is really cool in a fantasy universe like this. I'd kick the silly steam tank before I kicked brets.

Also I can see where people hate wood elves for being tree hugging hippies but I like them a lot. I personally see them as being a very cruel and cutthroat race with extreme terrain advantages that can't be overcome when you come into their house. I think wood elves a lot of times get a different reputation than what they really are similar to mermaids and fairies.

Now onto the armies I don't like:

I don't get why skaven doesn't pull more hate. To me it's just the New York sewer system gone wild with roids and HGH. I can see playing elves, orks, daemons, knights etc in a fantasy based game but rats? Does not compute.

I struggle to play against vampires without laughing at my opponent. When is Edward or a band of spooky puppies without shirts going to come and attack me? The only way to play vampires with a shred of respect is to run them zombie apocalypse style with all zombies and converted super zombies for vampires. If I could get rid of one army from WHFB right now it would be this one hands down.

Now my least favorite army in this game has to be high elves. They are the preppy rich kids of WHFB that really shouldn't get any respect. They have their shiny royal armor and fancy ASF crap but at the end of the day the warriors of chaos get to attack back. And just like when life hits a rich snobby kid, the warrior's axe hits home into the puny elves flesh and they don't even comprehend what just happened. If their was a perfect moment to be had involving WHFB it would include a Teclis mounted on a star dragon and me holding a sledgehammer.

Hell yes!! - the upside down bathtub and their new garden sheds! I have to agree with you on this.

That's pretty much it - they are just commune dwelling high smurfs, and yet as you've shown they can be perceived in another light - I suppose it's the elven cliche on all smurfs apart from dark smurfs being nicer than nice, and for me wood smurfs just were your high smurf analogy but in robin hood outfits.

You'll find most of their (HE) players have the same traits! I pretty much have the same philosophy of smashing HE armies - physically with a large hammer is about right. Still we'll wait and see what happens in their 8th ed rules eventually. Till then, just pack the hammers.
