Default The Capn's Fluff-Shop

Basically, this is a copy of Rafis117's idea to help other players expand their army by giving them some background fluff. I've been helping him out in his thread, but to be honest (don't tell the 40K guys) I like you Fantasy folks more. So, I'll be taking submissions with anything you can give, Background, Ideas, or even just an Army List.
Submissions will be handled on roughly a First-Come, First-Serve basis. If I am falling behind or choose to delay a particular submission for any reason, I will post here to notify you.

If possible, I'd like submissions in the following forms:

-Name of Army/Character
-Some kind of background (army list, equipment, ideas, framework, etc)
-style of writing (if you have any preferences)

Things to remember

1: All forum rules apply. Trust me, I've been here a while, I don't really have time to deal with trolling or flaming.

2: Please keep your submissions reasonable and/or somewhat to the GW "cannon". I don't want to be writing about 'Winnifred the Peace-Loving Ork' for example.

3: I'd prefer not to write the same exact thing twice. I'll be keeping pending requests and completed requests as Permalinks here in this first post. Before you request a new piece, please just take a moment to look over the list of completed works and see if any of them suit what you need. I doubt this will be a problem, as most fluff requests are individual, but if you are requesting just "A Prince of Caledor and his Noble Dragon", please make sure that I haven't already written a peace for "A Prince of Caledor and his Noble Dragon".

4: If you have already written your piece, and are in need of an editor- that's not my job. I can edit your work, but please post it in YOUR OWN THREAD, and then post me a link and I'll go comment on it there. This is just to save everyone time and space. A good sign that your army background is in the state that I tend to work with is if it is short, vague, confused, a few attributes of the army, the army list, or a combination of those.

5: Please keep all your posts in here related to your requests. If you feel that I need to correct something in someone's fluff, you can send me a PM with the problem and I promise that I'll look into it. This is to avoid raging fluff debates and all kinds of other problems.

6: This will likely never be an issue, but I'm told I should include it. While I fully endorse anyone who would like to expand on these stories or characters for their own use, the initial rights to the story stay with me. I'm not going to be the "GW thought police" here- using the previous Ork example, if you want to change my fluff to name your character Winifred, and make him a pacificist, that's alright with me. This is mostly just for that rare once-in-a-lifetime shot that someone would ever want to publish me.

7: Finally- just a note to other authors: I don't expect to get bogged down or delayed here, so I think I'll be okay writing on my own. However, if you want to lend a helping hand, please PM me. I know that several of you are excellent writers and fluffmeisters and I'd be more than happy to have you on board. If you send me a PM, I'll take your skills into consideration and recruit you as soon as you're needed.

That's all, time to open up the shop to anyone who'd like a bit of fluff.

In Progress Writings
SimpleBut- Brettonian Character (awaiting confirmation PM)
Archmage Lecai- BattleReport
Sethor- Dark Elf character

Completed Writings

Visitor Q- Dwarves in Brettonian Gear

Okay fluffmeister!

I've gone and recently changed my whole lizardmen's colour scheme from a dark bone/brown to a bright orange.

My army will consist of mainly "hot" colours.

here is the request;

I would like fluff for an army that worships chotec(sp?). I would also like them to be more "intelligent" than your average lizardmen. I was thinking something sort of like their own temple + city+ spawning pool with them basically having changed to adapt to their environment.

By more intelligent I really want them to be "sneaky like" and tactical which is something the lizardmen aren't exactly known for. My army is led by a slann most of the time but I do have an oldblood. Perhaps a slann and an old blood who lead the army to be more tactical? I'm terrible with fluff, so i'm really not giving you much to go on...

Also, ultimately some fluff background for my slann, old blood and skink chief.

I can't make any suggestions for the slann but for the old blood I would like something along the lines of him being wise and rational rather than just a killing machine.

For the skink chief, just something for the way I play him. he flies around the board with either +1S or killing blow taking on things which he probably has no chance against but I charge him in there anyway.

Being your first request here and having no chance to read any prior ones do tell me if this is what you're after. I don't want to be limiting you or making this difficult for you by giving you TOO much to go on.

A reply here or a swift PM upon seeing this please, if only just to confirm that this is the right way to request your fluff

Thanks a bunch!

Glavas

EDIT: Arrogance and pride! lots of that if possible. Hopefully this isn't your peaceful orc example...

EDIT2:

Lists often look like this;

Slann

Skink priest on EOTG

Skink priest on foot

Skink chief with cloak of feathers

Temple guard

Saurus warriors

Skink skirmishers

Skink skirmishers

Skink skirmishers

Skink skirmishers

Chameleon skinks

Chameleon skinks

Salamanders

Occationally I take an Oldblood instead of the slann, add a few more saurus with fewer skinks. The cold one cav are also a favourite of mine. I don't know how you can make the bigger dinos "fluffy" perhaps luring the enemy to stegs?

Salamanders are naturally aquatic, fast moving predators so I imagine they won't be hard. The old blood occationally rides a carnosaur, so a name for him too please?

As promised, I paid careful attention to your fluff as you were my first brave customer. It ran a little long, but it explains your army quite well, from their pride to their choice of skinks rather than saurus, and their stealthiness. It seems a little epic, which can be a bad thing in a back story- kinda like saying that you defeated abaddon, but I think it's still very believable. If you notice, I named your temple city Temo'plai, a play on Thermopylae. The whole story is based somewhat on the 300, as it chronicles the fall of a proud and intelligent warrior city.

Quote:
The Lament of Temo'plai
In southern Lustria stands a lonesome, shaded temple. It’s once gilded walls are overrun with vines and jungle plants, and its towers have been torn down. Within its dusty corridors, the footfalls of dozens of small feet can be heard skittering through the wreckage and on the darkest of nights, a dim glow of eldritch magic can still be seen atop the battered ziggurat. The temple city of Temo’plai is now a blasted waste, and a visible scar from the great battle against Chaos.

The denizens of Temo’plai had been children of Chotec, the most fleet footed and impetuous of all the Old Ones. Their skinks served as speedy messengers across the length of the Lizardman Empire. Their saurus served as elite fighters in the ranks of the Old One’s armies. Their close proximity to the southern pole meant that they were less affected by the relative cold, and oft beset by daemonic raiders and skirmishers. Gifted by Chotec with bright and arrogant hides of red and orange, the hosts of Temo’plai were a fearsome sight on the battlefield.

When the Great Incursion of Chaos came up from the South, the war that was eventually ended by the sacrifice of the great Lord Kroak, Temo’plai found itself standing as the first line of defense. They sent many of their saurus warriors and cohorts of skinks out into the jungles, taking upon themselves to fight the holding action against the waves and waves of Daemons who attacked their sacred lands. The Slann of Tempo’plai was confident that the undefeated warriors of his city would be enough to buy time for the city’s fastest runners to carry word to the other temples scattered under the broad jungle canopy. The daemon incursion had made communication through the webs of magic difficult. Throughout Lustria, slann dropped dead or were driven into madness as the taint of Chaos infected their communication network like poison in the bloodstream of a gecko.

After fourteen days of brutal fighting, it became apparent that even the vast army of Temo’plai had been overrun. Packs of Fleshhounds and wicked monstrosities from the realm of Daemons began appearing outside the city walls. No aid had come from the other temples, but the citizens of Temo’plai were not ready to accept defeat. The remaining skinks of the city took up arms and joined the last few of the Saurus at the walls of the city. Once again, a bloody battle raged between the daemons and the lizard host. The Daemons used fell magic, calling upon storms of flesh-altering lightning, or plagues of flies and spiders to spread sickness among the defenders. Temo’plai had seen this all before however, and it was used to doing battle against scourges of Chaos. The bodies of Daemons began piling against the walls, and their legion was held for a time. Both armies were too overcome with pride; the Daemon Princes demanded that the temple city be crushed utterly, as an example to the rest of the continent. The slann, great Tennu of the first generation, refused to surrender his prized temple city.

As casualties mounted, it seemed that the battle might be won. Runners had returned bearing news of a great army forming to the north, preparing to repel the incursion. But just as Tennu felt the taste of victory, a battered Saurus atop an equally wounded Carnosaur came crashing through the Daemon host like a thunderbolt. Reigning the enormous beast in in front of his master, he exclaimed that even the great host of Temo’plai was doomed if they did not retreat. He had seen the battle in the jungle, and the army outside the walls was but a fraction of the power that the Daemons had summoned to the world. He told Tennu that the foot soldiers of the Ruinous ones were beyond number. He demanded that Tennu retreat from the city with his Temple Guards, and leave a handful of defenders behind to try to hold the city. Tennu initially refused, but almost as punctuation to the brave warrior’s statements, a wave of Daemons that stretched to the very coasts themselves were spotted from the towers along the walls. Tennu reluctantly left his temple city, spirited away with his guard. The defense fell to the bold Saurus Warrior, Karnag. Karnag asked for volunteers to stay with the city. Even the resolute Saurus was moved when every remaining warrior in the city bellowed it’s oath to defend the temple to their last breath. Karnag was a great warrior, but an even better general. He held no illusions that any of them would survive against the coming onslaught, and he ordered several skinks and a detachment of the Saurus to leave the city, so that they could join with the great northern host and fight later to avenge their city.

As they left, Karnag mounted his Carnosaur Garak-gar, and prepared for battle. He ordered his skinks to retreat to the streets and alleys, and to conceal themselves as best they could amongst the stones of their temple.
When the Daemons descended upon the temple city, and broke through the tiny force left at the walls, they found the streets deserted and empty. They poured into the city and suddenly Karnag launched his trap. Skinks with blowpipes and javelins rained missiles down from the tops of buildings, and brave skinks hidden below sprung up to attack the daemons with fierce clubs and bone-knives. Packed into the city as they were, the Daemons had no room to retreat, and stumbled over themselves to retaliate. As the remaining saurus, led by Karnag and Garak-gar, descended the ziggurat steps and charged into the melee, the Daemons were routed and driven from the city. After the first day without Tennu, the battle was in the hands of the Lizardmen.

At the next morning, troops of fast moving Daemonettes of Slaanesh attacked the city. They stalked through the streets, and a running battle between the hunting skinks and the deft troops of the Prince of Pleasure broke out across Temo’plai. As night fell, the war cries of the skinks could be heard outside the walls, while the bodies of the Daemonettes scattered to the winds. The next day, the great Tzeentch took his turn. Houses burned and the streets turned to molten slag as the warriors of Tzeentch clashed with Temo’plai’s proud defenders. Skink Priests met the magical onslaught and after a ferocious battle of wills, Tzeentch’s forces were expelled from the city. Nurgle waited three whole days before he attacked, sending three great plagues and infectious disease to harass the defenders before lumbering mountains of filth and corruption broke through the walls. The beasts toppled the great towers of Temo’plai, and their sickly roots spread along the streets, killing all they touched. A desperate battle to defend the spawning pools began, but Nurgle claimed a small measure of victory as one of his lumbering beasts fell into one of the sacred ponds and tainted it with filth that would last for a thousand years. Garak-gar and packs of lumbering Kroxigors finally brought the foul beasts low, and Nurgle found his armies thwarted.

The king of Daemons, Khorne, loosed his armies against the exhausted defenders. He did not wait at all, attacking in the night. The city burned, and the raging inferno gave light enough for the battle. In the streets, waves of Bloodletters cut down all they came across while the skinks fired volleys of arrows and darts at the frenzied mobs. The fierce warriors were outsmarted by the scattered defenders, and the priests once again came to the rescue and banished many of the fell daemons back to the ether.

As the sun rose, Karnag saw his city a smoldering ruin, the spawning pools of the Saurus a steaming mire of corruption, and the warriors of Temo’plai exhausted and battered. Outside the walls, Khorne had sent a greater Daemon of his own, and rallied the entire of menagerie of the four powers to crush the city finally. Karnag brought his warriors together at the top of the Ziggurat to make their final stand.

The Daemon horde surged up the steps of the massive temple, the skinks firing volley after volley of missiles into the packs, sending waves of daemons tumbling down the slopes like an avalanche. It did little to halt the will of the Chaos Gods however, and battle was met with a fierce war cry nearly drowned out by the din of weapons. At the pinnacle of the ziggurat, Karnag and Garak-gar battled against the BloodThirster of Khorne.

The fighting went back and forth from dawn until dusk. The two champions had exchanged terrible blows, while the armies and wreaked destruction of an immense scale below them. Mustering all of his strength, Karnag struck the Greater Daemon a telling blow, splitting the creature’s skull to the shoulders, before slumping lifeless in Garak-gar’s saddle. Just as it had in the first battle in the jungle, the loyal beast fought its way free of the Daemon horde and fled into the jungles of Lustria, heading north. A few of the warriors of Temo’plai manage to also escape through the path Garak-Gar carved through the daemons, though the rest perished atop the massive Ziggurat.

Garak-Gar carried his master 270miles to the nearest temple city, the remaining survivors of Temo’plai running alongside him nonstop all the way. When they arrived, many were only barely alive enough to spread word of the city’s fate to the amassing army of the North. Tennu was enraged and defeated- his city had been the first to fall. In a small victory, Karnag slowly regained his strength under the light of the equatorial sun. He too was overcome with rage that he had not died amongst the defenders at Temo’plai, but he was prepared to fight in the coming war to free the rest of the continent from Chaos.

Years later, when Lustria was cleansed of Chaos, Tennu and Karnag returned to find their home ruined. Amazingly, a tiny force of skinks had held out amidst the ruins, fighting the same guerilla war which Karnag had begun so long ago. They had defended the remaining spawning pools, and Tennu saw that the city could be rebuilt. Exhausted from the fighting however, he retired to his ziggurat, and was rarely seen again. The spawning pits of the saurus were destroyed however. The few surviving Warriors and Temple Guard would be the last of Temo’plai. Karnag knew that the weight of the defense would fall to the skinks, which had proven their worth against the forces of Chaos an hundred times over. The army of Temo’plai became an army of secrecy and shadows. They were experts of hit-and-run attacks. They lost none of the ferocity of Chotec; indeed, they had gained more respect for his idolatry of pursuing the enemy, after they vowed to never leave a daemon alive in battle, even if it meant the extinction of their city. Karnag had become a veteran and a legend himself, and his constant exposure to the arcane storm of the war seemed to prolong both his and Garak-gar’s life indefinitely. He has been seen at the head of the armies of Temo’plai wherever they gather in force.

Generally I am pretty good at coming up with background for my armies but some extra input in this case would be useful.

Basically I have a Dwarf army that I am going to start using.

The 'problem' is the army is ancient.

Many of the Dwarfs are wearing what seems like Brettonian style armour (Featuring both Knight and Men at Arms helms) and many are even wielding double handed swords.

I was thinking of a mercenary army of dwarfs (I may include an Ogre regiment in the future) that weren't from an established hold but were 'outcast' dwarfs, ones which had grown up in human lands. But of course Brettonians generally don't use mercenaries.

However my basic army includes lots of Warriors and Iron Breakers and generally a few Thunderers but comparitivly few war machines at the moment though I have access to a lot.

They don't need to have a particular Brettonian conenction, many of them are in traditional Dwarfen garb as well, but it might help.

Oh and as a last thought I play 80% of my games against Lizard men and 15% against Dark Elves so I am guessing at some point they have travelled to the new world.

(I don't mind saying that Iron Breakers Hammerers etc actually just represent Veteran Dwarfs).

Anyway thoughts on where to go with this would be appreciated.

This is quite a bit shorter than the work for Glavas. I know that you are quite the writer Vis. Q. Infact, if ever I fell behind, I considered asking you for your help. I have both the Dwarf and Brettonian book. I pulled the most info from the Brettons. It seems that both races have a common enemy in the form of the Orcs. I figure that it's quite possible that your dwarf hold was overrun by goblins (as dwarf holds are wont to do) and the dwarves fled towards Bretonia. The Bretonian history actually shows that in IY2201 they launched a crusade against the Orcs. This occures in a few other years as well, but usually to the south-east in Araby. The only other "local" retribution was under the reign of Gilles, their version of King Arthur.
I opted for a short story for you, to give you a feel for the relationship and to explain your enemies and choice of weaponry. Also gives me a chance to showcase a different writing style, other than Glavas' historical piece.

Quote:
A Day in the Life of Garril- Peerless Dwarf adventurer (of the King)!

Garril Hammerfist walked from his tent into the hot, hazy air of the New World. Why in the name of the Ancestors the Duke demanded that they make an expedition to the new world was entirely beyond him. Since they’d landed it had been nothing but fighting. And between the fighting, it was nothing but rust, fungus, sickness, and damned heat! The humans were getting the worst of it, dainty refined Brettonians all, not used to such an unending campaign. To Garril and his kinsmen, it was not entirely unlike the deep veins in the mountains, where his clan had battled with the greenskins until the very end. They were finally driven from their ancestral home by the sheer number of enemies they faced. As Garril looked a large swarm of insects hovering lazily over a stagnant pool, he wondered just how many “enemies” they would find in these infernal jungles.

They’d left the cannons and most of the rifles back at the landing. The humidity here got into the powder and turned it to slime in the barrels. None of the prized Dwarven machines would fire in such horrid conditions. He heard Brettons on the far side of camp moan as another pelting rainstorm let loose and began rolling across the base. Garril just battened down the hatches- pulling his wide brimmed helm lower on their head.
Such equipment had been commonplace since they’d met the Brettonians. In the Imperial year 2201 Leoun the Orc-Slayer had led a crusade against the Orcs, and Garril’s ancestors had been quick to join him. Together, the two armies had cut a path through the mountains and even reclaimed their Hold. Many of the younger dwarves had been born in the realm of the Brettonians, and chose to stay above ground, maintaining ties with the Brettons and crafting some of their wargear for them.

Thus, Garril had come to possess an excellent gromril helm, shaped in the Brettonian style. Others in his clan wielded massive greatswords rather than the traditional axes of their race. Some wore bits of armor crafted in Brettonian style. The blend of cultures was not always successful however- many Brettonian youths had attempted to grow beards to imitate the style of dwarves. Their attempts were at first laughable, and then disastrous, as the many bugs and creatures of the jungles had infested the shabby beards and caused incredible discomfort to their owners. The Dwarves of course had no such troubles, and the Brettons even whispered that dwarven beards were enchanted to resist such things.

It was slow going in the jungle. The occasional raids by the weakling elves from the North was of little consequence, the Dwarves had spent hundreds of years and almost as many grudges fighting against their dress-wearing number. The lizards were quite a different story however, always striking from the treetops or from the shadows. They were like odd-colored, scaly, goblins. They had big Orcish thugs with them too, with sharp fangs and embarrassingly crude stone weapons. To be killed by such an inferior weapon was truly an insult to dwarven honor. Many an ugly lizard would be entered into the Book of Grudges.

The foppish duke was out of his tent now, two fair-faced lads holding a strip of canvas over him to try and fight off the rain. The man was getting soaked either way, but comfort- even illusory- meant everything to the humans. “There shall be no moving until this rain has stopped!” the nobleman called out. Going was slow in the best of conditions- especially for dwarves. “I doubt that even the beasts will fight us in this weather!” the duke called out again, over the pounding rain. Garill adjusted his breastplate with a huff; what a stupid man to think that anyone would mind the conditions of his own homeland. Dwarves had fought in the midst of cave-ins and rockslides, in the caustic fumes of their own forges, and in the total darkness of the under-tunnels. Let that Brettonian think what he wanted- he was paying well enough- but Garill wasn’t letting his guard down for one goblindamned second.

Cheers. This stuff is great.

I fought two battles today against Lizardmen and another with Lizardmen and Goblins allied, though I use the term allied loosely.
The goblins spent the game squabbling under the 'leadership' of a drunk (Stupid) goblin warboss.

Anyway 'The Legend of Garill Hammerfist and the Ballad of The New World' has begun!

Well I'm impressed with what you're doing here, I'm not massivley into fluff or writing for that matter but I've been building a Bretonnian army recently and will probably be blogging it's progress so a background article would be a fantastic addition to the blog/army progress thread. I'm still undecided on the theme/story/backrgound of the army at the moment all I know is I want it to be unique. Once I've put some more thought into it I'll post my ideas.

this sounds interesting..

I have an ogre army that im trying to get fluffed out.
Ive got a few ideas, but im drawing blanks in some area's so maybe you could help me out.

My general idea is thus:
The ogres were hired by Dark Elves as mercs to fight lizardmen. So an entire tribe of ogres migrated to the jungles, as this was to be a long battle/war. once the battle was over, and the DE's had what ever magic item they were looking for, they just left the ogres in the jungles to die.
Only the ogres didnt die, they adapted.
Durring the many battles, they thought the lizardmen were worthy advesaries.
so after destroying many villages and displacing many lizardmen they were known to be a force to be reckoned with.

thats about all ive got with a few other details, such as they have skink's as slaves, just as they do gnobo's. and there is a great deal of animosity amongst the gnobos and skinks.

they worship steggadons, and think that they are imbodiments of the great maw. children of the maw, if you will.

I dont have a name for my army, which would be cool
nor do I have a name for my Tyrant or bruiser.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

the list i usually run is:

1 tyrant

3 butchers

a few units of bulls

4 units of iron guts

a gorger or two

a couple lead belchers

gnobo trappers

and a scrap launcher, that ive built around a steggadon.

Wow. Another request in a day, and it's one more for the Jungles of Lustria! Ogres are a tough one to write for- they don't have very many motivations in the world. Seeking the Maw, seeking gold, and eating as much as they can along the way. However, I've come up with a story that contains the information that you gave me.
Also, No1CafC- if you want, you can send me a PM with your list and painting scheme, and any details (even tiny ones) that you'd like to have in your army's background. A lot of the fluff can come as a second thought that results from your colors or composition. There's no rush at all if you'd like more time to think about your army. I'm just happy that there's a request for something NOT related to Lustria, lol.

Quote:
The Tribe of the Scaled Maw

A great range of mountains separates the New World, and the realm of Lustria. The peaks of these mountains stand crowned by clouds, their bases shrouded in the steam of the jungle. Within their valleys and atop their plateaus are the scattered wrecks of vanished civilizations. Among the wreckage, there are lumbering boulders of muscle and hunger. They are the Ogres, brought to the New World by greedy Dark Elves, and like many transplanted species- they have thrived.

The Dark Elf treasure seeker Caython, knew that the beasts to the south of his realm were a force to be reckoned with. While Caython could match their cunning, his slender and agile elves could not match the sheer strength of the Lizardmen warriors. Not to be defeated, he first travelled to the distant shores of Cathay, and enlisted an entire tribe of Ogres to serve as the vanguard to his expedition.

When these lumbering brutes descended upon the Lizardmen, both sides were struck by the ferocity of their adversary. The Lizardmen had never such strength. The poisoned darts of their skinks were unable to so much as pierce the Ogres tough hides, and even their greatest Saurus warriors were dwarfed by the Bulls that charged into their midst. For the Ogres, it was a paradise. Gold was to be found in abundance, and the powerful armies of the Lizardmen were a ready source of sport. Better still were the beasts who roamed the jungle, a constant food supply- much better than the sparsely populated mountains of Mourn.

Caython drove these massive warriors before his armies, until he found the relic which he sought. As soon as the Dark Elf captain had his prize, he swiftly retreated- with no intentions to pay the Ogres, or return them to their homeland. He planned for them to all perish against the armies of the Lizardmen, or against the disease and predators of the jungles. The Ogres proved tenacious however, and well over half of their number remained. The Ogres finished their battle, and when they discovered that Caython had gone, they simply retreated to the mountains and reorganized.

The Lizardmen were not about to let such powerful adversaries escape however. They pursued the Ogres, thinking that the Bulls had been demoralized. When the tribe stopped at the mountains and began to settle in, the Lizardmen brought forth a creature that they hadn’t sent against the Ogres before during the entire campaign. Stegadons came forth to batter the Ogres in their halls. For the first time, the Ogres knew fear. Their Tyrant was slain, several of the Butchers were defeated, and their bulls were driven further into the mountaintops to escape their wrath.

Convinced of their victory, the Lizardmen withdrew back to their temple cities. They were awaken at nightfall by the sounds of drums and the bellowing of ogres. The mountaintops were lit by hundreds of massive bonfires. The Tribe was celebrating. A butcher had risen among them with a message. At last, they had found a sign of the Great Maw! The Stegadons, massive creatures who dwarfed the voracious power of even an Ogre- they must be a sign from the gods! This butcher, Olgar Redface, championed a new warrior to raise to the ranks of Tyrant. A Hunter, Golhang Goretooth had not only managed to wrangle an enemy Stegadon into submission, but he was also the oldest of the Ogres left alive after the Lizard’s retribution. In the gladiatorial arena of an ancient city, Redface’s champion battled against the dozens of other claimants to the title of Tyrant. By dawn, he had triumphed, and in a great display of fortitude- ingested each of them.

Goretooth demanded that the Tribe be renamed. The Tribe of the Scaled Maw settled in the caves and forgotten palaces of the mountains. Goretooth took the ancient temple and it’s large gladiator arena. He and Redface both vowed to fill the great pit with the finest golden weapons that they could plunder from the Lizards below. Like Creasus Goldtooth- a tyrant whom the Hunter had known personally- Golhang knew that he could make more profit by extorting the Lizardmen temples at the base of his mountain. Once a year, the massive Ogre would descend into the jungle on a great hunt. His warriors would bring back beasts from the world below, and gather slaves from the Lizardmen as a reward. Goretooth himself would return with a great Stegadon, captured or traded as ransom from the Lizards.

The night after this hunt, a great feast would be held. Ogres would feast on their spoils, and pile their gilded treasures in Redface’s great Pit. Those who brought the greatest treasures would fight in the arena to become leaders within Goretooth’s army. Finally, at the end of the night, a new tradition was implemented. Slave battles between the Gnoblars and newly acquired Skinks would determine the pecking order of each race of slaves. Animosity between the two forces was great. The winners of one year would defend their scant food supply with tooth and nail. Small skirmishes within the encampments, backstabbing and trickery upon the battlefields, would all culminate in the next year’s slave battle in the arena.

Whether it is through the strength of the Ogres, or the plan of the Old Ones, this deal continues. Goretooth loots and pillages the jungle, it’s scattered Amazon tribes or wandering patrols of the Lizardmen, and each year he travels to the nearby Temple Cities and collects his ransoms, in return for one more year without threat of devastation by the Scaled Maw tribe.
