    Dwarf Pirates?

So, I've recently gotten into WFB, and decided I wanted to give my army some fluff. My army is a dwarf army, and I got to thinking - I've never heard of seafaring Dwarf pirates. I'd think they'd be good at it, with their Ironclad ships, and everything. My thought was that they would be outcasts from proper Dwarf society who have gathered together to get some gold. So do you guys think that that's plausible enough to develop?

This might help. Suggests that your fluff is sound, too.
No more NG spearmen, thanks! Now I need some pump-wagons!

definetly plausible. Definetly outcasts with their sealegs.

just imagine that ship with lots of cannons sticking out of the hull. A dwarf in the eaglesnest and Long Drong near the wheel.
It could be the Grudge of Drong all over again if you set sail towards that high elf island

Do you have any conversions in mind?
(warmachine crew -old and new- might come in handy, they tend to have binoculars)

check out the captain on this ship!

The dwarfs do not even need to be outcasts ( and/or slayers ) of dwarven society. Barak Varr is a dwarven hold on the coast with Ironclad ships and dwarfs have an oath to mankind and bonds of friendship, so it would not be odd to find Barak Varr dwarfs ( or other clans of dwarfs on human ships or ships they built themselves ) to be prowling the shores of the old world and keep them safe from chaos marauding fleets or ramshackle skaven ships.

Paintmonkey is right, your best bet is to go with a long drong theme. I'd also include them in your army and say they're regular slayers. They are in pretty much all respects its just they have pistols instead of axes.

Thanks for showing me those slayer pirates! And that ship is really cool. I'll start working on more advanced fluff and share it soon. As for conversions, I don't have a whole lot of experience with those. Maybe adding pistols around their waists?

This idea definitely works. Barak Varr (the hold The bearded one mentioned...) had an article written about it in white dwarf about... 4 or 5 years ago (good luck finding it though... I think I still have it lying around somewhere)? It discussed dwarf pirates, ironclad, steam-powered boats, mentioned dwarfs travelling to islands and along coasts (first dwarfs to do so), mentioned the defenses in the hold and a few battles. The engineering guilds at Barak Varr were discussed, some really talented designers are working here and it was apparently more open-minded in their work unlike some of the other dwarfs, there was a reference to a submarine that a dwarf built! How good would it be to model that?

If you're really interested, I'm more than happy to go scrounging around for it in my shelves and can give you some more accurate information/conversion ideas.

In a votewar you don't vote on a single match, you vote on the entire round. Got that?
