Ok - just a few notes - Kemmler may have had his mind blasted by his rivals, but he was still a relatively powerful mage. Krell became one of his henchmen, and rememebr that Krell was a fisrt lt of nagash, and Nagash was guiding Kemmler into a meeting with Krell. Krell was under teh thrall of Kemmler - the battle of La Maisontaal abbey happened with Kemmler in charge of teh army and the Wight king as one of his minions.

Also the stats you have for Krell above are more powerful than the Herohammer era Krell, so I would tone down a bit.

Krell had his armour and the Black Axe of Krell, not overtly Khornate magical items.

Hey all, this is my first attempt at making a special character. I tried to make him as balanced as possible.

Kareph, Horseman Champion of Zandri 160 pts
Son of a Priest at Khemri. Kareph at a young age decided he didn't want to be a priest like his father. Wanting to prove himself with out his fathers influence, Kareph joined the cavalry garrison at Zandri. Through out his training he proved himself a mighty fighter. When the Kings joined together to remove Nagash from the thrown he made a name for himself during the battle. The Prince of Zandri later appointed Kareph training master of the royal guard. Years later Kareph was killed in a training accident. Grief stricken his father performed the embalming ceremony by order of the royal house at Zandri. Kareph's father placed his sons body in the tomb of there family with his spear and shield.

SP Rules: Flammable, Army must include one unit of heavy horsemen which he must command. His unit of horsemen are also WS +1 while he is in play. Kareph Cannot be general.

Spear of the Rising Sun 30pts
This spear was presented to Kareph by the prince of Zandri.
Spear, +1 st when charging. Always strikes first. Ignores armor saves.

Sand Storm Shield 30 pts
A normal shield enchanted by Kareph's father a priest of Khemri.
5+ Ar SV, all enemy's in btb must take a In test. all failed tests are A -1.

That seems fair altogether. The only complaint which I have is his shield. Rather than making it "-1A", make it "-1WS". For two reasons-
1- it's as hard to attack during a sandstorm as it is to see during one, therefore making it harder for your enemy to hit you, and easier for you to hit him.
2- taking away an attack will leave armies like the Goblins and especially Low-I Skeletons will be rendered useless against this guy.

I find no problem with his character other than the point cost. I would make it 200-250 points.

the main reason i chose 160 was he has the same stats as a TK BSB, with the exception of +1 In and +2 Ar sv from his magic shield. so i thought 15+ points for kareph as champion and 60 for the magic items.

yea captain i see what you mean.. that sounds like a good change.

I agree with the -1 attack - perhaps -1 attack to a minimum of 1 attack? Regardless of initiative?

That way you are penalsiing say unit champions (normally +1 attack) or expesnive troops like Swordmasters and Chaos Warriros, but not the dregs of the enemy army, or unduly impacting big monsters and Lords with multiple attacks where they may lose 20-25% effectiveness against him.

Sven Karlson- Captain of The Border Princes- Empire Hero Captain

The Karlson family has always controlled the lands on the very fringes of the Empire know as the Border Princes. The Reigning Baron is Sven Karlson. Sven Karlson has lived his entire life in the border princes of the empire close to the area known as the badlands. Sven has spent his entire life fighting the green skins that inhabit this and which frequently make raids across his land. Sven Karlson is a great tactician and leads his personal unit the Dark Avengers.

Equipment
Full Plate Armour, Shield, Sword of the Karlson's

Sword of the Karlson's
This is a family heirloom handed down by the Karlson family. The Sword donates the leader of the Karlson Family and right to the estate and lands. The Sword has also been used to kill hundreds of Greenskins and Skaven that inhabit the border princes.

The sword allows any unit within 6' of Sven to re-roll failed leadership tests as if near a battle standard. The sword also confers +1 Strength.

Special rules
Hates Skaven and Greenskins,
Sven is affected by the hatred rule when fighting Orcs & Goblins or skaven.

Dark Avengers

Dark Avengers
The Dark Avengers are the fatherless sons of Nourenburg. An orc Warband came to Nourenburg and slaughtered every man alive. Their children fled into the surronding country side and hid until Sven could muster his troops and drive the orcs back into the badlands. After the battle Sven took personal charge for the childrens safety and raised them. When the boys became old enough they made a decision to pledge themselves to Sven service for their rest of their lives to rid there lands of the filth which inhabit them. They are called the Dark Avengers due to their uniforms which are completely black. This is because they are still in mourning from the death of their parents.

The Dark Avengers are Sven Karlson Personal guard. These are hardened vetrans of Sven Karlson campaigns against the Skaven and Orc that infest the border princes. If feilding your army must include a unit of state trooos. Nominate a unit of state troops and these become the dire avengers. This unit now has hatered against Greenskins and skaven. The unit may also re-roll panic tests.

(this guy is loosely based on a charcter from THe Shadow of the Horned Rat Computer game)

P.S I was thinking about changing the re-roll panic checks to making them stubborn if Sven is still alive. Showing their reluctance to leave their adoptive father)

A few points - Sven Karlsson led his own cavalry unit from what I remember, and even as a Baron of the Border princes, he is NOT a baron of the Empire - the Border Princes are a loose confederation that are not affiliated with any one nation. What I remember of Karlsson is that his cavalry were called the karlsson cavalry, and were a medium cava;ry unit - swords and shields...their uniforms are halved red and yellow i think.

Anyways, teh character himself seems reasonable..

I thought that was a different Karlson who led the calvary. I meant Baron of the Border Princes.

I was thinking of rules for the Karlson Calvary and am currently working on a draft border princes list for use in campaigns or freindlys. An army made up of lots of skirmishers and infantry. Bowmen, Knights (Karlson's Calvary as Inner circle), Dark Avengers for state troops, Trappers. No cannons and Guns due to the relativie poverty in the area and lack of skilled artisans than the empire. Outriders will be allowed but they will be called Huntsmen.
