Default Ariel, Lady of the Lake? A question.

Hi,

[N.B. Spoiler alert! Please do not read any further if you have not read Guardians of the Forest and would like to without having the plot revealed to you.]

I just finished reading Graham MacNeill's Guardians of the Forest. It was pretty good, a fun read. Of course, you can get the same effect by watching "The Last Samurai" and substituting Asrai for Japanese people and a Frenchman for Tom Cruise. :shifty:

The book did its job, in either event, because I now want to play Wood Elves and Brettonians, in addition to Dwarfs, Orcs, Lizardmen, etc., etc.

Anyway...

In the book, there is a pretty explicit implication made that the Lady of the Lake worshipped by the Brettonians is, in fact, the Lady Ariel of the Wood Elves.

Am I reading too much into this? Is there other corroborating evidence of this? Or is this just another example of the books being 'playful' with the WHFB setting?

Thanks.

I haven't read the book but it sounds pretty plausible. Are you thinking of incorporating it into your game somehow?

It very well could be. I haven't read the book so I don't know, but the lady of the lake is supposedly a magical being who is a part of the spirit realm and to my understanding, so is Ariel.

I remember watching Excalibur and other movies of Arthurian legend, and in every single one of them, the Lady of the Lake gave me the hots. You should get some ultra-sexy wood elf sorceress or model, and build an army around the idea.

This was practically pointed out someone in the new Wood Elf or Bretonnian book I believe, though don't ask me where abouts. It's long been thought that the elf was also the Lady.

I have to say one thing to all Bretonnians...

You worship an elf!!

*falls over in a fit of hysterics*

It's funny, every time I read a novel of the 40k or FB setting, it makes me want to play the race or group that is the subject of the novel. ...except this time. After reading a book that featured Bretonnians, Wood Elves, and Beastmen, I wanted to point up an army of Dwarfs.

@David, I don't think this Ariel/Lady of the Lake is as hot at the others. This one has moth wings, moth antennae and no lower body. haha

Well, I can safely say I did not expect that sort of response. Nature-Spirit-o-philia, perhaps?

That said, there is an Ariel Special Character in the Wood Elves' section of GW-US's website.
She seems pretty mighty, excepting that she is extraordinarily expensive. In a large game, say three-thousand points, she might be fun to field.

Morghur (Cyanathair, to you Asrai) would still just as soon turn her into a Spawn, though.

And you could well be mistaking "hot" for kinky :w00t:

It would be hilarious if the brettonians did worship a floppy eared woos elf though, you could argue that they don't get their ward saves when they play against wood elves. I would love to see the bretts get down off their horses and pray to the lady only to have Arial on the other side of the field stand there and say "um, I heard your prayers lads but sorry not today".

Well, I finished the book yesterday afternoon, and there is a lot of intentional ambiguity. The author makes a point of conflating the two but leaving room to argue that they're not the same.
