Default AFG's Monster Arena

Well, you've been waiting for this one for a while, and with Dave and STDs consent, it has become my job to write up the curtain-raiser. The writeup is finished, and now its awaiting being hit up on the keyboard, so I thought I'd let you all know that blood will be flowing soon. For now, here's the introduction to my side-arena, the whole fight will be up in a few hours hopefully depending on who steals the computer (metaphorically, of course).

Anyways, here goes (Disclaimer: i'm not STD, so don't expect great things:
The tall figure moved smoothly into the Highborn’s Box, accompanying Ka’Rion, and sat down, briefly bowing out of begrudging respect to his master.
“Well Archon,” said the Druchii Lord, making no attempt to mask the iciness present in his voice, “I hope your line-up for me today is impressive.”
Archon contained the urge to lash out, masterfully concealing his rage. “Well sire, for starters my name is not Archon…” in a respectful manner.
He needn’t have bothered. Ka’Rion stared back, his face drained of any feature, obviously unimpressed. “Lest we forget,” he interrupted, “YOU are the Noble under MY command. I’ll call you what I damn well please.”
“Yes sire,” Archon nodded curtly, his dignity perishing that much more.
He watched as a wry smile forged on his masters lips. “Well, on with the show!” The Druchii Lord seemed to have forgotten this minor insubordination.
“Well,” replied Archon, having lost most of his trepidation by this point, “the first combatant will be Gorp the Refined.”

As said before, the actual writeup is on its way, and will arrive soon.

Gorp the Refined vs Tree Kin and War Hydra
Character recap
Gorp:
-Idol of Mork (-1 to he hit in cc)
-Armour of Gork (+1 Toughness)
-GW
-Battle Brew (varying effects)

Tree Kin
War Hydra

***

As the large, wrought-iron gates opened, in strode a mighty Greenskin warrior. Contrary to the crude leather and cheap armour worn by most of his species, this one wore a fading purple cloak, spun of the finest cloth looted from the Empire. Underneath was a chainmail breastplate, hideous and corroded, yet at the same time it bore a faint shimmer in the dim Naggarothean light. His jaw was smaller than most others, and his eyes bore an expression of an artisan expression, reinforced by the two magnificent earrings in each pointed lobe. His head was vacant of a helmet, replaced instead by a rotting, stinking pile of excrement. As he staggered into the arena, he held up a large amphora, as if to toast at a celebration of something. Gulping down the foul liquid in one go, he pulled out his large battleaxe, and moved forwards.

Facing Gorp was a denizen of a long-extinct forest. A silent husk of what was once a magnificent tree, its bark was a mournful dark brown. The only vegetation it bore was a dry, light brown thorn, mazing its way around the forlorn tree. As it saw Gorp racing towards it, the Tree Kin stepped forwards, looking to crush the Greenskin.

The protagonists charged in the direction of the other. As the tree swung a gnarled branch in the direction of the Warboss, Gorp casually tossed his amphora to the ground, shattering it instantly. Using the broadside of his bloodied Battleaxe, he blocked the trees blow. Removing his prized piece from the Tree Kins body, he took a quick blow at the creature’s leg-like limbs, enacting the motion of the Empire’s lumberjacks. As the aged bark chipped away, the tree began to edge backwards in a defensive motion.

Sensing the beast was staring down a defeat, Gorp seized the moment. Raising his battleaxe above his head, he called out a war-cry etched into the deepest recesses of his species soul; he sprung towards the wounded tree, swinging violently at it. It became apparent what the vile brew had done, as he wildly, mindlessly and barbarically beat the Tree Kin into sawdust. Calming down from this insane flurry of attacks, he saw his opponent clinging to a small amount of ‘life’. He uplifted a booted foot, and unleashed a vicious kick on the monster. As the crowd watched it fall into the dirt, they howled in wild approval. Collapsed, the living glow previously emanated by the forest minion ebbed away into nothingness. Looking around, slightly disappointed by the lack of fight this opponent had put up, the Greenskin cried out another challenge.

His call didn’t go unanswered. In strode a dreaded Hydra. Mostly resembling the Firedrakes of the mountains, its skin was brown and leathery, and bore large patches of scale clumped together in various places along the torso. Yet the most striking feature was the head- all seven of them. Long, slender wyrm-like necks extended from the reptilian body, each with an overlapping crest of scales decorating it. Each head was the size of one of the Stunties dwelling in the mountains to the East; each head bearing huge maws sporting a ridiculous amount of elongated razors, each of which had clearly gnashed on some unfortunate victim at some point. Some of the heads bore large scars, indicating that this was not the first resistance they had encountered. As one of the heads opened its mouth and breathed a conflagration of white-hot flame, Gorp growled in a low voice and charged in.

Swinging his axe with more enthusiasm than skill, Gorp effortlessly severed one of the Hydra’s lower heads. The conferring neck collapsed limp, blood spurting out frequently. Feeling a sense of pride swell up in his broad, muscular chest, the Greenskin followed up the assault, arcing counter-clockwise his red-stained battleaxe, mindlessly hacking out clumps of sinewy flesh. After this frenzied attack, he paused briefly from exhaustion, large drops of the beasts crimson blood racing down Gorps body- adorning his as a true killer- and his, unusual, headgear.

This pause, however, proved to be a significant mistake. The Hydra detected an opportunity with its bestial intellect, rearing its hind legs, lashing out at the Orc with its front, massively clawed feet. However, the breastplate afforded Gorp a great amount of fortitude, and he was minorly shaken from the blow. As it struck with its razoric claws, the Hydras sole head to have remained thus far lunged at Gorps right cheek, tearing out a large chunk of flesh. Virtually oblivious to the searing pain, the Orc leapt towards the monsters chest, hammering his axe into its torso. Time seemed to stand still for a few seconds, then the Greenskin removed the axe, emitting a squelching noise as the embedded weapon separated from its newfound host.

Leaping back, Gorp swung his axe one more time, this time into the Hydras side. The blow shattered its ribs, piercing the resilient, scaly skin. As the blood began to pool on the arena floor, Gorp stood back, watching the Hydra walk around circularly, groaning in pain, blood gushing from its numerous wounds.

As it collapsed, the bleeding slowed down. Blood does not flow long from corpses. A triumphant Gorp cried out his jubilation, walking around the arena briefly, covered in the sickening, dark gore, both his and his opponents. As he left the arena, Archon’s herald called out:
“VICTORY TO GORP THE REFINED!!!”

***
Round 1: [G- 4, TK- --], Round 2: [G- 4, H- 0], Round 3: [G- 2, H- --]

Gorp had this one from the start. Facing two low-Initiative opponents, and having Hatred and S7 really did help here. Plus, whenever they were able to strike him, he was pretty well protected. Note to self: Get bigger monsters next time I run one of these.

Gorp advances to Round 2.

Great job, ArchonFarseerGuy! I really enjoyed reading it.

You caught both a sense of the character and the battle action. Gorp kicked some butt. I wouldn't have guessed that he could have killed the hydra.

Nice writeup. I look forward to reading more.

Good summary. I particularly liked the descriptions of the monsters. However, I hope some of the other matches become tougher for the entrants because you'll have a lot of write-ups to do if all the characters make it to the second round. Besides, Archon my feel his master's wrath if his monsters fall so easily.

And no, Krongor needs to die. I need you and those two almost identical dwarves to die early on so I can take the prize.

I'll be annoyed if i die because after doing some calculations, there is actually no army list monster that can kill Krongor lol. He can beat a Steam Tank no problem thanks to his rather insane magic weapon against such creations and also he statistically should beat a Star Dragon(after rolling 5 battles between a Star Dragon and Krongor, Krongor won all 5 times lol).

Sods law though, he'll end up with bad dice rolls and end up losing to something pathetic like a Treeman Ancient lol.

erm, according to my stats, Krongor is in the main arena, so he won't be facing any monsters, but he'll be ging for the bigger glory.

Just thought I'd clarify.

Oh yeah, and daelrog, some characters do end up dying Round 1 (not saying who), and I suggest you watch this space, as Archon will meet a very interesting fate.
