Default Battle Report Pitched Battle 2000 pts High Elves vs. Orc’s and Goblins

I tried something different with this report. More of a story and not as long.

Te-ador looked over what was left of his army. They had been victorious a few days, before. Defeating the Dwarfs, but morale was low. They had lost almost a third of their troops. And worse of all they lost Helglen the Archmage of Saphrey, although Te-ador knew the Mage had nearly died several times before and would always reappear. Te-ador had a decision to make. In order to get his army back on schedule he would have to cross through a heavily patrolled Orc realm. He knew it would be risky, but he had orders to arrive at the Town of Grisok Morr in 3 weeks time. Fighting the Dwarfs had knocked his army off schedule and he needed to make up ground. He decided to cross the realm to gain it back. But would his men listen to him, there had been talk of other heroes leading the army. He ordered a small unit of Scouts and Silver Helms to the to the East of his position it was their job to draw the Orc’s and goblins in this area out and when they got close to retreat and rejoin the army. They followed his command and he was no longer worried about his troop’s loyalty. This should allow his army to cross the realm safely or so he hoped…

Grik Nok, the Orc big boss consulted with Spike the Orc shaman about the position of the High Elves Army. Spike had read stones and told Grik Nok an army would be approaching from the West. Grik Nok had confirmed this with a small unit of Wolf Riders spotting them. The riders had spotted the Small contingent of elves leaving the units and heading east. Grik Nok, bellowed a hollow laugh, De Elvesis thinkin they gonna out smart me. De is tying to lure us away and snik throgh our realmss. We will pretent to fall into der trap and spring one of R owns. Grik Nok quickly sent a large group of Boar Boyz towards the elf units and instructed them to Howl and make as much noise as possible. Grik Nok, smiled a large grin, and said “De elvesis gonna get a beatn now, Then Laughed and said everyone hide wes don’t be seen by dem delveisis…

Te-ador watched hopping the Orc would take the bait of the Silver Helms and shadows warriors. Soon he heard Orcish Horns and War Cries, He was satisfied the Orc had now left and opening to sneak through. He ordered his men to move out quietly, as they moved into the realm. One of the hidden Goblin scouts thought this was the perfect time to punch another goblin, know that his comrade had to remain quiet, pretty soon all of the goblins in hiding starting doing it. Then one of them clubbed another on the head with his shield. The Echo could be heard for miles…

Te-ador yelled, they didn’t fall for it men. Prepare for battle…

Battlefield:

High Elf Perspective:

A Hill in the South West Corner in the High Elf Deployment Zone, and a Large Pile of Rocks in the North East corner of the Orc Deployment Zone.

Deployment:

High Elves:

Te-ador ordered his archers up on the hill, While he and the White Wolves, along with the Spearmen including Asarey and Swordmasters including Galdren would form a line in front and to the left of the hill on the West Side of the battlefield. The Shadow Warriors and Silver Helms would form up on the east Side of the Battlefield, with the Shadows warriors in front of the Helms. Lastly, the Bolt Thrower would deploy off of the hill and Behind the 3 units of foot troops.

Orcs:

Stone Thrower and Doom diver in the North West Corner of the Battlefield. With 2 chariots next to them. Then the Night Goblins, with the Orc Unit directly behind. Next to the Night Goblins was the Goblin Unit, with The Black Orcs and the other Orc unit behind. Both Wizards, on their own behind the goblins. Then on the Northeast side of the table using the Rocks as a divider 1 Bolt Thrower, then both units of Wolf Riders and the Last Bolt Thrower.

To Battle:

As the army move forward Te-ador now saw the menacing war machines and the rest of the Orc army. He yelled, the Orc’s have set a trap, everyone prepare for battle. The Elven army formed a skirmish line and all the units move forward cautiously. The Shadow Warriors protecting the Silver Helms and Ferelen. Asarey attempted to cast several spells but the Orc shamans easily dispelled them. The Repeater Bolt Thrower fired a single bolt towards the Snotling Pump wagon. The bolt Impaled it, but the Gobin contraption just keep coming. The Archers fired arrows at the large Night Goblin unit and a few goblins fell.

Grik Nok snorted “Kill dem Elvesis, One unit of wolf riders charged the Shadow warriors in front of the Silver Helms. The Shadows warriors opened fired and proved how deadly accurate they were and killed 3 wolves causing the unit to panic and flee. The other unit of wolf riders moved to the flank of the silver helms.

All of his units moved forward with the Night Goblins leading the way. The two Chariot moved up the flank towards the archers on the hill and the flank Te-Ador and the White Wolves. Both Shamans attempted to obliterate the Shadow Warriors, but Asarey narrowly dispelled their attempt. Greenie then pointed his stick at Galdren and a bolt of lighting shot directly into him, Galdren was hurt, but still alive. Both Bolt Throwers opened fire at the Swordmasters, but both bolts missed. The Rock Lobber was deadly accurate as a large rock landed in the middle of the White Wolves crushing 5 warriors. Then the Doom Diver fired the little goblin was going to miss his target, but adjusted and landed in the White Wolves, exploding and killing 4 more. Ta-edor’s pure heart kept the unit from panicking.

Ta-edor wished his eagle from the last battle had returned so he could draw out the Goblin Fanatics, but it was not to be. Instead he decided to back everyone up and let them come to him. He gave the hold and move back command to all his units, but the Shadow warriors and Silver Helms. Then he moved himself to the other side of the White Wolves and moved the unit backward slightly, waiting for the chariots on his flank to make their move. Hopefully, this strategy would stop both of chariots from getting a flank charge. While the Shadow Warrior and Silverhelms moved toward the enemy bolt throwers, hampered by the Wolf Riders on their flank, finally the Archers moved off the hill and onto the flank of the Chariots. Asarey focused on his spell and suddenly, the Wolf Riders on the flank of the Silverhelms began to glow an iridescent color. Both shaman were helpless to do anything about it. The Repeater Bolt Thrower crew saw their target and opened fire with a volley and in a stunning display every bolt found its mark and all of the wolf riders were killed. The Archers opened fire on the Chariot in front of them, but its armor protected it.

The Night Goblin unit began to squabble with itself, but it was just another sneaking tactic as suddenly the Night Goblin unit surged forward screaming and yelling heading towards the White Wolves and Te-ador. (Darn I hate that 6 roll on animosity) Suddenly, a goblin fanatic charged out of the unit and into the White Wolves, the whirling nut killed five more White Wolves and popped out the back of the unit. Then the Night Goblins and both Chariots charged the Te-ador and the White Wolves. Only one chariot impacted on the flank, so Te-ador’s strategy had helped a little. The Impact of the chariots crushed all but Te-ador, the Champion and standard bearer of the White Wolves. The charging Night goblin then attempted to net Te-ador, but he chopped the nets aside. Finally, he struck back with his Blade of Darting Steel. 3 Night goblins were killed. The Night goblins attack back, but the White Wolves easily dodged their attacks. The Chariot directed all their attacks at Te-Ador, but they failed to wound. The 2 remaining White Wolves dropped their axes and pulled the swords and attacked slaying another Night Goblin. Even though they lost badly, the 2 White Wolves remaining continued to defend there leader stubbornly.

Seeing his lord in trouble Asarey charged his spearelves into the Night Goblins fighting the White Wolves. Ferelen and the Silverhelms charged the Bolt Thrower in front of them. Galdren and the Swordmasters charged the Large unit of goblins in front of them. The Shadow Warriors marched closer to the other Bolt Thrower. The Repeater Bolt Thrower fired a single shot through the Black Orc unit impaling 2 Orcs. The Archers fired at the Fanatic behind the White Wolves and 2 arrows hit killing him. Te-ador’s Blade of Darting Steel struck out again and 3 more Night Goblins fell, Ararey and the Spear Elves slayed 3 more and finally the White Wolves struck killing 2. The chariots and crew attack the Ta-edor, but once again Te-adors skill and his Armour of the Gods deflected their blows. The Elves had won the combat the Night Goblins fled automatically due to fearing the elves and the chariots amazingly continued to hold against almost impossible odd (Both had a 5 or less). Asarey and the Spear Elves decide not to pursue and held there ground. While the White Lion Champion lapped around to fight the chariots. On the other side of the battlefield Galdren and the Swordmasters attacked the goblin unit, killing 4 allowing none to attack back, but with Grik Nok nearby the unit was to afraid to flee the battle and continued to fight. Finally, Ferelen and the Silver Helms easily killed the Bolt Thrower crew and overran off the table.

Coming to the aid of the Goblins fighting the Swordmasters The Snotling pump wagon ploughed into the Swordmasters and Galdren adding to the combat. Crushing 5 Swordmasters on impact. Grik Nok motioned the Orc’s with choppa’s to move forward and prepare to charge the Te-ador and the White Wolves then he moved his Black Orc’s forward preparing to charged the Spear Elves and Asarey. Both Shamans targeted the Shadow Warriors with their spells. All of the Shadow warriors were killed and the unit destroyed. Greenie then summoned the Edbut spell and directed it at Asarey he was racked with pain. Spike then attempted the same spell, but he summed too much power and fell to the ground in pain. (He lost a level due to miscast). The Remaining Bolt Thrower then fired a single bolt towards the High Elf Repeater Bolt Thrower, and amazingly killed the Bolt Thrower in one hit (Some of the best rolling I ever seen). The Crew with no machine to man, fled the battlefield. The Rock Lobber then landed a stone on the archers crushing 3. The Doom Diver crew forgot to tie down a rope and when fired, the machine launched the Diver into the sky never to be seen again. Until this issue was fixed it could not shoot again. In combat, Galdren and the Swordmasters slayed 4 goblins, but in return the Snotlings and pump wagon were able to kill another Swordmaster. The Elves had been beaten and even the urging of Galdren the Battle Standard Bearer was not enough. (Man I needed to roll a 9 (General was within 12) or less on two chances and failed both.) Galdren and the Swordmasters fled only to be caught and destroyed by the Goblins and Pump Wagon. Te-ador and the white lion champion attacked the Chariot with 4 goblins and destroyed it. The remaining chariot attacked Te-ador and the White Lion Champion, but failed to cause any damage. The Chariot had lost combat, but once again held (5 or less again).

Asarey saw Grik Nok, the Black Orcs, and the Orc unit with Choppa’s moving into position to charge. Asarey moved his Spear Elf unit backwards slightly hoping to move away from both units. Ferelin and the Silver Helms moved back on the battlefield and stopped in front of the other Bolt Thrower. Asarey summoned his power and targeted the Orc Shaman, The Orc Shaman felt his magic power weaken and drain. The Archers moved forward to the flank of the Orc Choppa unit and unleashed a hail of arrows. One Orc fell dead. Te-ador knew if he could make the Chariot flee, his unit could pursue and hopefully, away from the two Orc Units and Grik Nok. Te-ador skillfully attacked the chariots weak points and the crew, but unfortunately, goblin chariots are not always built the best and in just a few strokes the chariot fell apart. The White Lion champion finished the crew off. This left Te-ador, the White Lion Champion and the Standard bearer to both Orc units and Grik Nok.

Grik Nok saw the cowardly Elven wizard retreat and knew his unit would not be able to catch them. Thus his ordered his unit and the Orc’s on his flank to charge the Te-ador and the remaining White Wolves. The Victorious Goblins and Pump Wagon circle to the flank of the Spear Elves. Greenie was able to cast Edbut on the Ferelen, but his armor saved him from harm. Grik Nok issued a Challenge and Te-ador accepted. Grik Nok was surprised by the speed of which Te-ador attacked, but even though his armor failed him his magic ward save did not. In return, Grik Nok landed one blow that penetrated Te-ador’s armour wounding him. The Orc’s attacked with their choppa’s and killed the White Lion Standard Bearer. Leaving only the White Wolf Champion and Te-ador who held stubbornly.

As the battle continued a Horn Sounded from the west and army of humans was going to attack the Orc Village. Grik Nok said “You’re a lucky on Elf. I must protect our village, today you get to stay alive. With that the Orc’s left the elves retreat from the battlefield and prepared to protect their village from the humans attack.

We had to end due to time, but even though we never calculated our results it was pretty clear the Orc’s had won the day.

Conclusion:

I wasted my Silver Helms the whole game. I expected to use them to flank charge the Goblins, but my opponent used the Impassable rocks as an advantage to protect his flank and I could never get my Silver Helms into combat again. I was really hurt by failing my 9 or less roll twice with my swordmasters at that point the game was still close, but losing my BSB and swordmaster unit was a crucial turning point in the game.

My opponent played a pretty flawless game and deserved a win.

I gotta say i love fluff battle reports, they are far more imaginative and exciting to read, there should be more folks who write like this imo.

Default Maybe so but..

His army was from the 5th edition and he had greenstuffed a Crown of Command on his leaders head. So I'm just so used facing it from past experiences I forgot the Orc's are not that wise.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. I have another battle report comming soon. This time with my new army. Well see how it goes.
