Default Carrying multiple weapons

Is a unit that is equipped with multiple kinds of weapons able to switch weapons at will?

Say a unit is charged, could they use a hand weapon and shield the first round of combat, then next round (assuming neither side breaks and flees) switch to, say, a halberd?

No, if your unit has multiple weapons, when combat is joined, you say what they are using. They must continue to use this weapon while that one combat lasts. Next combat they are in, you would choose again.

Yep Sirkently is right.
So if you have HW/Sheild and SPears and use the HW/sheild in 1st round of combat, you can;t switch to spears in the next round.

Each new combat declare what you are using ad continue to use them until that fight is broken off

There is one (that i know of) exception to this. Bretonnian heroes may use their lance on the charge, and then may switch to using a magic weapon, if they have one, in subsequent rounds.

One more exception is with ogres and there iron fist, they can freely switch from it counting as a shield, or an extra ccw during each new round of a combat

Indeed, as can Beast Shamen with their Braystaff. But thats because they arent swapping weapon, just the function of the weapon they are using.
