Chaos Runeshield impact to other models while in a Challenge

If I have a character with the Chaos Runeshield in a challenge....does the Runeshield negate magic weapons of other models in base contact that are NOT in my challenge? Is that true for other items/marks that affect models in base contact? I know the HE have a similar item as well.

I'm also wondering how this works when you have a character with a base size that doesn't fit the unit and hence the character may not be able to move into base contact of a challenge. BRB, just says if they can't move into base contact, "assume that the two models are in base contact." Pg 102.

Question came up when going against a unit with multiple characters with magic weapons. This could make the positions of characters critical to the outcome of the combat. Thanks

Rarely will happen, but in that case assume that the model in the challenge is affected only.
