A guide to Vampiric Zombie Hordes

This is going to be the first VC tactica in a series of many, which will include tacticas on:

    Different army builds
    Different Bloodlines
    Different Tactics
    Different Units
    Magic
    All things vampiric
    Our armory

and anything else i can think of!

    Remember its a WIP atm

    So, here we go! *mario*

You want a zombie horde dont you? the massive walls of dead flesh shambling towards the enemy, gaining in numbers the more enemy's it kills, overcoming even the strongest foe through sheer weight of numbers. you - hey! your salivating! Well, if this is what floats your boat here we go!!

A few notes to begin with:

    1. This army is considered cheesy by many, while it can be exceptionally hard to beat, some things can beat it (gunlines, snipers, unbreakable killing machines etc)

    2. This army realistically needs about 9 power dice without bound spells. Meaning that you will be forced into necrarch armies or a Necromancer army. It can be done with other bloodlines, just not as well.

    3. Protect your wizards! they are essential to your army and must be protected, one loss is aprox 3 PD

Ok, Now i will give a run down of the positions needed by this type of army:

    GENERAL

Ah, the most important thing needed for a VC army, i heartily recommend Necrarchs (mind u i DO play them....) as they are much tougher thanMaster Necromancers. Although, a Master Necromancer can get more PD+Bound spells than a necrarch, but a necromancer cant get 4 S6 attacks, a 4+ ward and WS 5 can he?

So, if you go for te necrarch route, heres what i recommend:

    Necrarch Count

Now, i recommend the count as you can get more invocations or nehek off this way, 4 instead of 3. A lord is nice, but expensive (not really a problem in this army) and limits your magic phase.

    Give him:

    Sword of Might
    Crown of the Damned

This is his close combat gear, which is very much needed in this army. As he will likely be you only hope in the way of close combat, and probably your only hope against things like flagellants too (they just dont die!!!) So this provides him with a solid 4+ ward (if he starts dying u should have 12 PD to give him wounds back) and 4 S 6 attacks. If you take the staff of Damnation on a necro, u can re roll those attacks and hit before even Assassins!

Finally for bloodline powers, take Nehekhara's Noble Blood, which will mean you can cast invocation on 3 dice with all your wizards (assuming you take the almost obligatory Power Familiar) With the upgrade to Level 3 Wizard he comes in at an epic 340 points.

Anther build that could be used for this guy are the "pure raiser". This is the build:

    Nehekharas Noble Blood
    Dark Acolyte
    The Awakening

Now in my opinion you would be just as well buying a Master Necromancer, but some people like the combat ability. Although, you wont have a ward save.

Im not going to go into all the different builds, just make sure your general has a decent amount of PD and you'll be fine!

    RANKED INFANTRY

Now, in my opinion theres only two types of infantry needed in this list. Tarpits, and Better Tarpits. The whole point of this army is the "wall of attrition" technique, so i dont think Wights are needed, just stick to Skellies as your elite units. So, lets get cracking.

    Zombies

These suck, i dont care what you say, they suck. And thats why i love them!!!! For slightly more than an empire swordsman you get the ULTIMATE (in the words of something i cant quite remember, caps lock is the cruise control for awesome!) tarpit. For this type of army, you should make three *main* blocks of Zombies. These should be about 25-30 (the bigger the better) strong.

After this you should play the MSU (minimum sized units) game. See, with 4 ION's (invocations of Nehek) a turn you should be able to get a fair few zombie blocks going. Remember though, get a necrobunker for each necro, and as the horde grows, move them into the untouched 10 man blocks.

I strongly suggest putting your vampire in a unit of zombies, as this gives him a giant "meatsack" to hide in. Make his unit 30+ strong (post raising) so put him in one of the original "20 man" blocks.

Next up: Even more on Zombies

Caps lock may be cruise control for awesome, but you still have to steer!

Interested in reading more. I always like to know the tactics my enemies may use...

Heh heh. I wasn't trying to imply anything about how you were using them, just extending the expression. No need to get the zombies involved...

But if you do want a lord level general which will survive even the hardest blows, take a master necromancer with the cloak of mist and shadows and obsidion amulet .

Along with healing, this guy can be ridiculously hard to kill.
