can you make your own chaos gods?
Depends really. Officially, nope, sorry - SOL. If you're just playing for funsies then go for it.
"If you can wait til I get home, then I swear we can make this last."
Sure you can! Really -- why not?
If Lord Bart of extreme badness and his band of not-very-nice marines want to worship the god named, um, ok, howabout 'Karmoon' (Who in the 40k world is the evil deity of intelligence, wisdom, and chaotic cunning...) Ok! Great! No problem.
You might want to limit yourself to marks of Chaos Glory and the new 'generic' demons only, or come up with some very good fluff as to why some of the not-very-nice marines, who worship your new chaos god would use a mark of a different god...
But your army is whatever you want to make it.
And if you stay within Codex rules, nobody is going to stop you!
Go for it!

Sounds like a good plan Chief- after all, it's your hobby )
Many people will be doing a very similar thing. Some will stick with Undivided Icon, and others will use Icon of the Gods for added abilities yet make up fluff and model conversions to justify those upgrades.
The 4 Chaos gods are just the most powerful of the warp entities as they are the four most basic and raw human emotions..... but they are still just warp entities. You can always declare a different entity to be the patron of your armies in the material realm Just get creative, think of a colour scheme and story, and run with that!
