OK, rumors about the new Chaos codex have been flooding the forums lately, and they bring a lot of changes. My question is, what does this mean for Lost and the Damned?
I've always wanted to play an evil Guard army, and I figured that now was as good time. I just need to figure out how to play with the list.
We know that the new Chaos codex has generic daemons, no daemonic beasts, and no nurglings. That changes several things. I can no longer take "Greater Daemons", "Daemon packs", "Gibbering Hordes", or "Daemonic Beasts". Also, the changes to Chaos Spawn, makes them a Fast Attack choice. In the LatD list, they are a somewhat different unit.
Plus, I don't even know what to make of the "Arch Heretic" HQ choice... He's the only viable choice there is, but he "counts as" a Chaos Lieutenant, who doesn't even exist in the new codex.
Should I lose these units, replace them with the old rules, or use the new rules (generic, unlimited daemons, no nurglings/ daemonic beasts/Arch Heretic, and altered, unlimited spawn)?
P.S. I know that GW is planning on a new Daemon codex to come out, and most of my questions may be answered in a forthcoming FAQ, but I'm just looking for suggestions.
(I want to start playing and collecting now!)

Well, I'm pretty much in the same situation as you...
I'd use anything from the eye of terror book, along with the wargear and the like from the old chaos dex. Allies and such (so basically marines) go from the new codex.
It is kinda odd that we now have fast attack spawns... and heavy support, but hell... 30+ spawns to field. Albeit they're more expensive. Don't require slots in your FoC though.
As LaTD you could take a Dreadnaught now, at the expense of Obliterators.
So my guess is any models IN the eye of terror book w/ reference to chaos dex = old chaos dex. Thus a Arch heretic gets to use daemonic gifts and the like. Anything besides eye of terror in regards to allies = new dex.
You'll have to get yourself the old codex chaos, as those units are only in there. I suppose as the LaTD list used those, then it'll still be ok to use them with it. That said, GW did drop LaTD from tournament play, so they're no longer an army as such. You'd be best off collecting a normal imperial guard army that looks chaotic, as I doubt they'll bring LaTD back. Which sucks as it was my FAVOURITE list of all time. ah well.
If I've replied, i've probably used Italics...

I just got into 40k not too long ago myself, and LatD was the army I started collecting for. Thankfully, I was going LatD with Death Guard allies, and I started more with DG (though I got two boxes of zombies I was converting for mutants). I didn't even get to play an actual game with my real minis (besides a couple CPs) before news of the new 'dex and no more LatD.
It's sad, but I'll be collecting pure DG now until the Daemon Codex comes out. Rumor has it LatD will either be included in there, or come around as a separate 'dex somewhere down the line. A mini-dex, like the SM chapter ones would suit it well, I think.
Here's hopin' ... cause I've got a lot of zombies with guns that'll have to be used eventually.
in one of the apocalypse preview is said that with 3 full strength ( in mini count ) mutie squad u get a stratagem which means the they will be something for them in apocalypse
so better wait.. sit back relax and save some bucks. most of the chance they will be under normal guard rules with a chaos look
This is my Bolter. There is many like it but this one is mine. My bolter is my best hobby.....And i still hate dragons. Find out More at http://necrohammer-at-war.blogspot.com/
Yeah, I've heard they'll be in Apocalypse. That makes me happy, but at my collecting/painting rate, it'll probably be a couple years before I get around to those scale games.
When Codex: Eye of Terror gets updated, LatD will be changed.
LatD's legality is a coin-toss for tourney organisers and hater opponents, so be advised.
Haters claim the new Codex invalidates LatD, but then again, they're haters.
Some GWUS drone updated the LatD pdf DL page to say it wasn't valid any longer.
So, if you play at GWUSHQ this might be an issue. GWUK has no such condemnation, afaik.I play a non-IG list, meaning no IG infantry. Traitors suck pretty hard, compared to Mutants.I've always wanted to play an evil Guard army, and I figured that now was as good time. I just need to figure out how to play with the list.Only if you use those lame Units. Don't do that, and everything's fine.We know that the new Chaos codex has generic daemons, no daemonic beasts, and no nurglings. That changes several things. Not so. The only viable choice is 3 Champions of Chaos.I don't even know what to make of the "Arch Heretic" HQ choice... He's the only viable choice there isThese were undesirable Units before, and haven't improved with age. Forget them. Problem solved.generic, unlimited daemons, no nurglings/ daemonic beasts/Arch Heretic, and altered, unlimited spawnHeh. Good one. The alleged Codex is vaporware, and expecting GW to make things better is a fool's game.GW is planning on a new Daemon codex to come out, and most of my questions may be answeredThen collect IG. It's that simple, really.I want to start playing and collecting now
The LatD rules let players with one army get 2 armies by buying half of another.
It's the same model as the SoB/ Witch Hunters; GK/ Daemon Hunters expansions.
No matter how GW screws things up, you'll still be left with a whole army, and can continue to play.
Apocalypse acknowledges a Renegade IG army list thet's all IG *except* for Mutants.
Just model 3 Units of IG infantry mixed with Zombie parts, and there's your 'LatD' half-army.
The 3 Chaos Champ leaders may be playable, maybe not. Either way, it's only 3 models.
Good luck, and have fun!

The problem with just playing a "Chaosy" Imp Guard list is that I can't use the CSM I already have as allies...
I also don't get Daemons, Defilers, or anything of the sort.
Ah well...I'll just keep collecting my CSM then...
the new Chaos codex hits pretty close to home. I was very exicted about the book till it occured to me half my LATD was going to be left at home. I would hope that we will see a quicky dex ( eg . the blood angles in WD ) to be availible to us so we don't get bogged down in rules changes. I fully agree with playa that the "haters " will be giving us some grief till we get it worked out.
Thought for the day: A Burning Heretic , Will brighten the Decor of any room.
unfortunately, I'm pretty convinced that the new codex is pretty much the final nail in the coffin of codex EoT LaTD.
It's just too different to be compatible any more.
So, my advise would be to:
1. Stick with the old CSM codex for LATD
2. Wait a bit for apocalypse and also the daemonic legion codex.
Lastly, I'd ignore anyone who says that you're doomed and you're wasting your time and money etc etc (yawn).
Remember, this is a hobby and a creative one. What you do with your gaming club and the like is your choice. Time spend whining and trying to get others to hate changes is ALWAYS better spent doing more constructively like developing house rules.
