Is it just me or are Plague Marines now Necrons that cost a few more points have 1 higher toughness and initiative 5? Feel No Pain works exactly the same as WBB except that the second roll is made right away. The same weapons and effects that ignore WBB also ignore FNP. That being said, I am thinking of making a mock plague marine force to fight against my necron opponents. Although the troops are awfully expensive, I think in some spots it can be very useful for chaos to use our "necrons." Now if only we had a Res Orb in the armory...
Well personally, I think Plague Marines are far more capable of dealing with infantry than Necrons due to their ability to take decent special weapons (which Necrons can't do) and move around quickly (which Necrons can't do, except with special Lord-oriented wargear). Also, it's not so much the special rules that define them rather than their interaction with the rest of the army - Plague Marines are a pretty solid standalone unit whereas Necrons rely on their synergy with the rest of the army to win.
Plus Plague Marines don't phase out, for which I am very grateful
no, WBB can be used if the entire squad is detroyed as long as another squad of the same type is nearby, BIG difference.... where as FNP units can be shot up and you know they're down, big, big difference
although it is fun when you tell you're friend "nope, my marine can come back from the Nemisis force weapon attack!"
Create flames for a galaxy and it will be warm. Put a galaxy in flames and it will be warm for the rest of it's existence.
Against basic weapons, plague marines are more like terminators with respect to staying power. Actually, they are better, believe it or not. Plague marines are now the hardest basic infantry to kill using basic weaponry.
As NiteRabbit said, the versatility of plague marines is far greater than Crons.
Spambot kill tally. . .337
Cept against vehiculars.
On a whole I think they are a whole heck of a lot tougher than necron warriors.
I don't see how they can move faster though. Using Veil and monolith necrons can be a really fast army if you build them that way.
Of course, their humble bolters cannot shred Landraiders. But PM are still more versatile.
... only triumph could turn pooing his pants into a good thing..
yeah, but if you compare them there's a 5 point difference between a warrior and a Plague marine.....no res orb and no gauss. Anybody else think that is just wrong as a whole somewhat. But there's that +1 toughness so I think that more or less evens it plus the 2 special wepons. Oh, yeah you can't pop out your PM out of your land raider with living metal and skimer upgrade and get a second FnP roll
You still have 2 ccw with plague marines and have I3, and don't forget blight grenades. Phase out is also an issue. Overall they seem about even.
I think the real tragedy is EC noisemarines. So overpriced...
Tho I agree with Zaraky, they are far better than necrons in close combat 8X
