Hi all,
I've been playing a Dark Eldar Army, blasted GW and mailorder only, and decided to start my second army. Just picked up the Chaos Megaforce and had a box of Night Lords thrown in. Anyways, wondering if any of you Night Lords Generals out there would answer a couple of questions;
1. The Defiler - keep or does it go. Afraid it may be the latter since NL are a fast attack based force correct?
2. The Khorne Berserkers - Can't use Khorne in a NL army so I'm going to have to modify these guys into a Chaos tactical right?
3. Go with only one heavy and add the additional fast attack?
4. What to get next?
5. Suggestions for a well rounded force?

Looking for a compliment here is like looking for a girlfriend in a cemetary. You know you probably won't like what you dig up, but you'll take it anyway.

Don't worry so much about the berzerkers. Just get rid of the icon with a file or something and you're good to go. You could count them as a troops unit. Think about getting some raptors and bikes as the NL's make good use of them. Arm the raptors well as they would be good at tactical assaults....I'm thinking MoU with tank hunter

I'd keep the defiler. NL are a fast army, but need something to draw fire and soften up the enemy/take out heavy stuff

1. keep it if, you want, there is nothing to stop you, i just consider the Nl to be more a light, fast force, so I would never consider taking a defiler.

2. file off symbols, add winged helmets, etc.

3. it depends on how many points you play, in 1500 and under, 3 FA options is enough.

4. the raptor boxed set and a couple of blisters, give them furious charge and if you use them right, they will work wonders, believe me!

5. in 1500pts you should take 2 dozen normal csm at least. 2 units of raptors or bikes, your choice. havocs with tankhunter skill, and a decent but not over the top lord.

a tip for the raptors: never leave them open to fire, use cover to maximum effect!

Depends on the size of the game. For me, 16 regular guys and a Rhino is enough for 1k points, the rest being in Havocs and Raptors with a Lord. Raptors are more fun IMO, but Slayer prefers bikes. With that issue, do what you like best.

I don't perfer bikes, I love them both equally. Bikes are very nice, specially against s 3 opponents, once you enter into cc, that t 5 helps alot. So does the fact that you can get bike mounted plasma guns. Bikes are lot more sturdy, so can stand being in an assault for a few turns. Raptors on the other hand I use more to just hit and run alot, fire off some nasty melta, before rengaing into some CC. I love them both. And generrly I use 8 basic guys per 500 points, some times more, but never less.

I prefer raptors. They are more effective (you can get a raptor with furious charge and Mocu for less than a bike) than bikes, mainly due to the hit and run rule, which if used well is deadly. I don't like bikes as I've had bad luck with them, and I'm not spending £18+ just to give them another chance.

TROOPS

for 1000pts I take 18 and rhino
for 1500pts I take 26-30 and a rhino or two

basically at least 8 normal csm's per 500pts.

Hope that helped.

With my NL army I used two 8 man troop in rhinos with the close combat and tooled out champ of lightning claws and the other with power fist and both with furious charge. Now as far as the Defiler goes yes they are a Fast attack army but even in the fluff they still call upon the small amount of heavy support from downtown. My raptors usually infiltraited with furious charge and the champ with claws. So the first thing in mind is get alot of raptors over bikes. Do not underestimate the troops of chaos as they can be very tooled out and I used a NL daemon prince and LT with jumpack and claws.

Personaly in my experiences I take about 30 baisic marines, its a great firebase, gives you numbers, is flexible, and is durable. Then with the left over points I invest in rhinos and leutanats+ aspiring champs or possibly furies, just my 2 cents, hope this helps
