what do you think would do a better job with supporting a night lords list? (older codex)
2 squads of 5 csm with one heavy bolter each. all with stealth
1 squad of 5 havocs with 4 heavy bolters with tank hunters and stealth
It's more of a question of longivity (10 total troops) vs. fire power (4 heavy bolters).
Ummm well in a long range support role a Havoc Squad is the main choice as the Marine Squad will only get Rapid fire shots if they are within 12" of the enemy, so the Havoc squad can pump out more shots at a longer distance.
That being said that's the old codex your talking about.
I'm assuming your not upgrading for some reason and will only be using your army amongst your friends?
Quite frankly I'd give the new codex a good look - Night Lords come off really well in it.
- Multiple cheap Raptor Squads
- Infiltrating Chosen (at no additional points cost)
- Multiple "God" upgrades without taking up any elite choices
- Uber-grit for all your troops
- Bike Squads (as usual)
with the new chaos codex you cant take a heavy bolter in a CSM squad unless they have 10 members.
I certainly wouldn't give Heavy Bolters Tank Hunters. Save that for ACs and MLs.
What are your regular opponents, as the HBs won't help much vs MEQs?
I would say bulk out the Havocs to 8 and go with them more weight of fire for roughly the same points, or only a bit over
Asking for suggestions without knowing what you're planning on doing is like asking a blind man what color shirt matches your eyes.
Why not tank hunting autocannons? It is more expensive, but nothing beats a unit of 8 with 4 autocannons and tank hunters for versatility. After you kill a land raider that way, you won't quickly forget.
